Monte Carlo Front Discs

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I finally got round to registering in the forum, having used some of the information already discussed in the various topics.

I'll cut a long story short...I need to get front break discs for my 11 Monte Carlo 1.6 TDI. Looking through various parts suppliers, there are a couple of options available. Could anyone enlighten me as to which are the correct discs? 256mm or 288mm diameter? I searched through previous posts looking for any advice but couldn't find anyone having discussed the topic in this forum - apologies if this was discussed somewhere and I simply haven't been able to find it.

Thanks in advance,

Jamie

Welcome to the forum,

just go to a good Motor Factor or Parts Supplier with your Registration Number or VIN and they will supply the correct parts.

&

maybe ask about 'Brake' discs.

eg

?Do the discs really need replacing?

Are you going to change the Brake Fluid now, or has that already been done?

Example of Skoda Pricing, but you might well get cheaper than this.

Maybe price up the Discs bought from the Skoda Dealers Parts Desk.

I believe yours to be 288 mm Vented,

but the Supplier should confirm the correct ones.

or whip a front wheel off and get a tape measure or ruler out,

with 32mm difference you could probably measure them with the wheel on close enough to work it out

Aargh, schoolboy error...should have re-read what I was typing.

Of the parts sites I've used, even after supplying the reg there are 2 options available.  I was hoping to order the discs today but looks like I'll need to get the trusty tape measure out later.

Thanks for the replies.

The sites i checked also showed both sizes and not only a difference because of 75 ps or 105 ps.

Where will you get them, Dingbro or the likes?

Skoda parts department

If you think they are worth paying more for, you are as well to.

Are the Original Discs badly corroded or scored?

How many miles have they done?

I just Skimmed a pair, because they had not been on long and were as bad soon after replacing the previous pair.

If those stay looking good with you through the summer i will try a pair of them.

After taking the old discs off discovered they were quite badly pitted on the inside. So far so good with the replacements.

However, on banging the wheels back on discovered I had a buckle in the N/S/F alloy. Contacted Glentyan out in Linwood (near work) who managed to sort it out. If anyone in or around Glasgow needs work done on their alloys, I couldnt recommend Colin at Glentyan enough.

Just out of curiosity, anyone had any issues with their Monte alloys being easily buckled?

I hope not, but as I have two new tyres to fit up front, I'll find out soon enough...I haven't felt any wobbles.

Crikey though - pitted discs and buckled alloys.  could it just be bad road surface/flood water etc?

I can only recall hitting one pothole that made a significant noise...it also seemed to be on the inner rim as the outer face of the wheel is unmarked. Sods law I suppose but glad that it's all sorted.
