Welcome to the Forum.

Have you got a video of one with haldex, proper tyres and someone with driving skills.

I just see the Vid with a VW struggling.

Actually, considering that it appears to be on normal road tyres I would say it did quite well, and certainly better than a Fabia would manage. Plenty of us have manged similar in out Yetis!

However I would say that there are some clever camera angles involved in that video, that make it look better than it was.

Is this a Russian Yeti driver exploring a back route into Crimea?  :whew:

Llanigraham,

"Certainly better than a Fabia would manage".  LOL, are you going off topic on the Yeti section there or just trying to be smart?

WE know that Fabias do not have Haldex or offroad pretentions.

Some might have about as good a break over angle though.

Has anyone got pictures or videos of 'their' Yeti actually being driven and used Offroad,?

not just on some Green Lane/Public Highway or track unsurfaced, ie without a tar surface.

I thought that too at first but look at the trees, they're straight vertical...

regarding fabia...that's a good one.

I understand yeti has exactly same power train as tiguan so yeti would this as well.

Good video . Just shows that any Joe blogs with summer tyres can escape a sticky situation

Hello and welcome tigi

I would have thought Yeti, driven with a bit more purpose, would have blitzed that track.

Lot of front wheel slip too which seemed odd.

Is there a % bias to the front?

After seeing this I am quite pleased to have ordered the Rough road package :-)

Front wheels need to spin before the required power goes to the rear.

Haldex works, as designed, i do not think that has ever been in question.

Great for a Soft Roadrer SUV's.

It would be good to see one that works as an 'Offroader' on a regular basis.

Maybe some member can show the Recovery points they have fitted to them

incase of having to recover others on their travels, or for recovery or self recovery.

Had to spin the wheels on the VW in the video, so in 'that situation',

which kind of what this thread was about.

Haldex, proper tyres, skilled driver.

or maybe just Haldex equipped and driver.

So Halex on road, or on the race track, that is another subject maybe,

Haldex working as designed to, never really been in question has it?

Only Rough Road Package required to get out of the gravel at the track side.

Front wheels need to spin before the required power goes to the rear.

That was the case with the gen2 haldex on mk4 platform cars

Gen4 haldex on mk5 platform will shift power around without requiring slip.

You said the front wheels need to spin and they don't so I was clarifying for anyone else that doesn't know how the later Haldex systems work.

In the clip (at around 25 seconds) it pulls away on the hill without too much power being applied to induce wheelspin and appears to get drive to the rear without front spin.

All done by the electronics, use of ABS Sensors, sometimes nipping of brakes on of pads on discs,

driver input almost not required,

just a slight understanding of the system is useful,

as with all 4x4, AWD or Part Time AWD/4x4 Systems.

And various other sensors, which is why the car will bring more drive to the rear in to balance it even when driving on the road and all wheels have traction.

Most members will never know, but when you start to really throw a Yeti around the Haldex is what makes it so incredibly capable.

The traction is simply far superior, even on the road, over front wheel drive cars.

They really are a surprisingly capable bit of kit. :)

Just add proper tyres for various circumstances, or if using ones for all occasions and conditions.

just accept what the Haldex offers in situation you are in.

Mines been used in off road situations and at specific Off Road courses and managed very well on even the standard road tyres. As said, generation 4 is pre emptive and doesnt require slip from the front - its miles ahead of the generation 2 setup I had on a previous Skoda. :)

I know precious little about off-roading, but I did a course once and I'm pretty sure the first (and main) part of that course was about choosing an appropriate gear and ensuring enough forward momentum not to be floundering half-way up a slope...

Sometimes you need to do that to actually force a traction loss/limitation to show off how the four wheel drive system works.

Otherwise you'd just be driving around with no problems.

Yeah, I suppose, could have done it on a hill that would hurt less to roll backward down though - or maybe that just shows his confidence in his car...?

In my own experience of offroading hills always look far more gentle on video than they really are.

So I suspect there is some additional camera angle being used to make it look more exciting. :D
