Engine management light comes on intermittently

Featured Replies

Hi guys!

I just bought a 2002 Fabia, and all seemed to be well. After about a week though, I've had the engine management light (I think, the yellow one?) come on for about a second or two, go off, go on for another second or two, then go off and stay off. I've had this twice now, both times about 5 mins after starting, doing 50 one time and 60 another. Anyone got any idea what this is, as I rang a garage and they had no idea. Don't want to hook it up to diagnostics as I'm skint this month, so was hoping someone might recognise the problem (if any!).

Thanks!

Alex.

The light is telling you to scan the car. Take a look at http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/262215-list-of-vcds-owners-previously-known-as-vag-com/ - another member may be able to scan it for you.

I had the little orange management (engine icon) light come-on.

Took it to independent garage to be scanned £35, and they found some wiring departing company from it's connector.

Charged hours labour £45, with new connector,  but problem solved.

I wouldn't have found it in a million years, so pointless me buying a scanner, then trying to decipher what each error message, simply means a no-go area for me..LOL

Mine was a dodgy temp sensor. £11 to fix. XD

Thanks for response guys, very helpful, let's hope it's just a small fix! I saw it flash up again yesterday, and I'm 100% sure it flashes 3 times now. I'm assuming this might be described in the manual, but my Fabia didn't come with one, and I can't seem to find one online. Does anyone know where I can get a pdf of it, or could someone check their manual for me? Thanks!

Thanks Wino, that helps, although it's for a later version Fabia (2005 onwards I think, while mine's a 2002). But if the warning lights are the same, it looks like it's a problem with the exhaust:

"If the warning light does not go out after starting the engine or it lights up or flashes when driving, a fault exists in an exhaust relevant component. "

Better take it to a garage then...
