VRS Headlight Bulbs

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Has anyone changed their headlight bulbs in the VRS? Also, what bulbs are required, because all the various websites are a bit confusing - im fairly sure they are Xenon HID?

they are xenon. not sure why youd want to change them?

I want a whiter, more powerful light (within legal limits of course). Do you happen to know the bulb size?

nope sorry

Whiter and brighter? Really??? I think they're pretty good as is. Can you actually get "upgraded" HID bulbs?

The standard ones are dear enough!

Well thats what i thought, but then i compared beam whiteness and brightness while alongside other HID cars (BMW and Mercs) which appeared to be brighter and whiter. My assumption is that Skoda fit the run of the mill OEM bulbs and not Philips or Osram ones.

This is some of the blurb - which gives a good reason why other cars with the same headlight type appear brighter.

Alas, also figured out the size (i think) - D1S for the dipped and H1 for the full beam.

I thought mkiii's were bi-xenon so its one bulb with a shutter?

That is correct.

Good spot!

Well that shows how little accurate info there is online about which bulbs fit the car. I cant believe the bulb spec is not in the handbook.

Think it's pretty normal not to put specs for xenons in the manual as they don't like random people messing them as there is a (slight) risk to life, think it takes about 25k volts it ignite a xenon bulb......

You don't need the bulb spec, the original bulb will most likely outlive the car. My old Audi had the original bulbs Xenon bulbs in at 13 years old, and still provided a white light that would put a standard bulb to shame.

The bulb is officially dealer replacement if it does need doing, so there is no need to provide any details.

holy thread rezurrection bat man!

i was asking myself the same question. I wanted to fit super bright LEDs, so we are saying its too difficult to change thes eto led and what would we need? ledperf sell full kits at around 300 euro for 4 bulbs.

definitely what bulbs go into a MK3 vRS headlight?

main bean =

low beam =

side light =

spot light =

can anyone fill in the blanks?

Main beam and low beam are provided by a D3S xenon bulb in the Pre-facelift VRS. Sidelight is a w5w not sure what you mean by spotlight?

Fogs ? ( Standard fit, Halogen Bulbs H16 fitment )

sorry i meant front fogs i think someone mentioned if you change to led you need two different sizes due to the size of the outer bulbs? ie 2 + 2.

so the high/dip are one D3S xenon HID bulb. £90 a pop in halfrauds....

Ahh :)

They are the same size as auric posted, just needs 2 for each side so 4 in total.

Yes D3S aren't cheap, I'd recommend Osram CBI if changing them. The same bulb does dipped beam and full beam as they are Bi-Xenons, a shutter simply moves to unleash the full light.

ok thanks, finally some clarity

so these are 3200 lumens, some of the LED aftermarket replacements are claiming13600 lumens 100w, could that be correct?, sounds like it would strip paint from 100 yards and surely not legal?

No idea regarding the LED aftermarket replacements, but I'd expect any Chinese stuff to be grossly overestimating any lumen claims. I'd also be concerned about replacing a 35w bulb with something drawing 100w. Are they a straight D3S replacement?

Personally when it comes to headlights and the stuff you really rely on in the dark, I'd only trust brands such as Osram, Phillips etc.

Surely if each bulb in one side of the Fog cluster is H16 why do you need two different ones/sizes to make them fit. H8 dulbs will fit the fog lights but one of the lugs needs a trim to make it slightly narrower.

someone mentioned it regarding LED replacements. two different sizes were required due to an obstruction if your fitting aftermarket.

sorry i read wrongly they are 50W bulbs. 6800 per bulb. for £30 worth a punt.

Edited by JohnnyType2

Can't say I'm sold on any of the claims made on the product listing page. If you think it's worth a go for £30 then take a punt and let us know how you get on as I don't think anyone else has done it on here :)

ill ask for them in my christmas sock.
