Less Smoke ....

Featured Replies

Bit of a strange one. The other day I had to fill up at a local independant for diesel. They only had one choice so put in £15s worth and pottered around as normal. I was very suprised at the lack of smoke my car produced on this fuel, the back of the car was still relitavly clean after a week which is unheard of lol. It pulled just as well too.

I am an avid user of shell diesel which is rather smokey for me but never thought anything of it.

Any ideas why one would smoke more than the other ? The independant was 5p a litre cheaper too. Half tempted to fill up again there on my next fuel to see if it was a fluke.

Hey, I'm a tight Scotsman, GO FOR IT! anything that saves you money is alright by me, lol.

If it means you are washing the car less too, that's more money saved

Mines the other way round if I fill up at say morrisons my car smokes and I get diesel knock put vpower in and it's a total different car hardly any smoke and no knocking

I always run mine on asda diesel unless I have to stick some in elsewhere but always go for supermarket fuel. Mine barely smokes and it never has diesel knock. With the miles I do sod paying even more for fuel than I have to

Mine runs better on supermarket diesel for some reason.  No idea why :D

Will update the thread once I have completed another refuel :)

Good to know others are running on "basic" fuels. Reading most of the posts here you would think everyone runs only the best lol

mine runs a million times better on vpower Diesel

That's what I usually run silky.

The ecu learns how to set the engine as it runs.

So it is not surprising that filling with a diffenent fuel eg normal to v-power or the other way round, will produce odd results.

Personally, I run regular Shell diesel with Millers Eco-Boost.

No ecu learning on our Bosch edc15p ecu's.

Petrols "learn" by using the results from the lambda sensor to adjust short term and long term fuel trims.

I try to only put Vpower in mine as it runs so much smoother on it.

I started being lazy and just chucking cheapo supermarket stuff and after a while i didn't think much of it.......

till i put another tank of Vpower in and suddenly remembered!

In answer to your question though i have never found the type of fuel used has changed much other than vpower seems to be more of a grey as apposed to black smoke.

Maybe I should try running a couple of tanks through mine to see if it gets better long-term.....

My car seems to prefer Asda diesel too. Less smoky than  v power. Must be burning cleaner?

I do use this additive though which seems to have reduced smoke even  more than when i used millers.

I can now actually see the cars behind me when under full acceleration which is nice.

£40 for 250ml? Jesus! I guess you don't use much then?

One of the reviews says 5ml for 50l so I guess it's not too bad when you think of it that way

Well my current tank of V-power is still smoking like a good un lol. Thought it may be weather related but it has been a decent day today.

Should be ready for a refill come the weekend though :D

I reckon you've just been being a pansy and not thrashing it ;-)

still smoking like a good un lol.   :D

The dust still hasn't settled at CC Tuning after your dyno run yet!!!!!  :bandit:

I had a little play with a lad in his daddy's Sirocco last night - obviously it was all inside the speed limits... 0.o

Setting off on a rolling start in second gear I gripped the wheel and set off foot to the floor , made a little bit of a lead before the change into third , but looking behind me , I couldn't believe how much smoke was pouring out of my car!? The car, as far as I am aware , is completely standard, granted it is a seven year old diesel and it has done 83k but I serviced it less than a thousand miles ago, and always use V- Power or equivalent BP diesel .

Any other way, apart from not driving like a nob, to reduce the smoke?

The smoke is best used for filling cars that drive too close !

You slow it down a bit, let them get really close - change down and floor it - hoping they have the air vents open - hehe !!

When did you last drive like that?

They do get a bit clogged up after a while, and a good blast will smoke it all out.

Try driving the same again, I bet there is less this time :)

Do you only get smoke on remapped cars or the larger engines? I haven't seen any from mine apart from when I first start it up on a cold day or something, never seem to get any when I 'thrash' it.

If you have a **** map on it it will smoke, im running a faboka map on mine and it doesn't smoke at all really

Well I am quite a conservative driver if I am honest. So I haven't really driven like that before (only had the car six weeks or so).

Italian Tune up style ? Blow some cobwebs out.

I will give it a good run the next chance I have.

Thanks for the reply

I had some lad on a 125cc bike behind me last night. He was going crazy at the amount of smoke my car was chucking out, all kinds of hand signal then he nearly rear ended me on a roundabout he's lucky he escaped from me after riding like a **** through town :)
