What price to expect to pay at a garage for...?

Featured Replies

Hi there,
As a first time Skoda owner, and first time user of garages in the UK, I'm trying to find out what kind of charges to expect. I have a 1.9 diesel and would like to know if anyone is trying to pull a fast one when I get the work done.

How much would you expect to pay for the following jobs (parts/ labour inc. VAT)?
- replace (1) front spring
- replace brake discs front and rear
- replace front bearings
- change timing belt

Am planning on having the work done by an independent VAG garage and hoping it'll be cheaper than the official dealers. If it's useful I can put up some quotes as I get them (ones so far seem expensive to me, but then that's why I'm asking for advice).

Cheers for any help...

(PS - if this is posted in the wrong subforum then feel free to move- thanks!)

Well i was £300 for full pads & discs change, including parts and £189 for timing belt change, both independent garages. Both on a 1.9 td.

Dont know about the other 2.

Where abouts are you located? Might be somewhere someone can reccomend! Ive just sold my fabia with all the reciepts so sadly cant give you any prices. But front brakes i think were about £100.

Springs really should be replaced in pairs.

Cheers for the replies so far folks that's useful to know. Springs was a typo, should have been a 2 in brackets.

RE location, in lothians so any suggestinons for there/ Edinburgh/ borders would be handy.

I dont know about the other bits.... but I would be looking at doing the discs myself, really. :)
