Does my Audi have a Skoda engine? - Shock Horror!

Featured Replies

I always think a Passat looks a bit low rent parked next to a Superb, inside and out.

...until you look round the back of the Superb [twin-door] even the FL with its low rent previous gen Audi A4 rear lights doesn't really make for much of an improvement, I spent 4 years perfecting the art of reverse parking during my time with the Berb!

  • I ran one of the first mk2 Fab VRS and SWMBO wanted to top it by buying an Audi A1 1.4 TFSi DSG shortly after their launch. So the VRS is parked outside the Audi dealer and we're talking to a suit. W

  • Incorrect. As a new dad, boot space is crucial. I'll wager any new parent or parents in general quantify boot space before a purchase.

  • > Should I be concerned?   Yes.  The car will turn up in 12-14 weeks, but the engine won't be delivered for 6-7 months.

I love the rear end profile of my Twindoor, although I do have the L&K LED's which changes the profile slightly.

I find this badge snob argument old and actually shows up skoda owners as the ones with the chip.

Vag cars aren't the only cars you can buy. Everyone has a view on what a good car is and suits their needs. But that's just it buy a car to suit you needs not a badge. But it seems peopke now but skodas for the badge, the look at me I'm smarter than everyone badge. Badge all the same. Sad days

Personally I can think of lots of things I'd rather spend a couple of grand on than a piece of sticky-back plastic...

You did, just a different one, skoda badge comes with a premium over done cars too! Oh that's right ur car didn't.....really? Lol

I thought so. Yeah just minor changes to allow 4wd wasnt it?

Ahh dont tell the audi drivers that haha. They have alot more sound insulation than i do i imagine haha.

Good argument, if u can't tell the differences I'm stunned and worried. As I say value is not my point differences still exist.

Chip shoulder maybe. Just accept some people buy cars because they like them it's not badge for everyone or most for that mater

Erm......3 posts in 4 minutes seemingly being a bit defensive about buying an Audi.

It's a free country and you can buy what car you like, but who did you say has the chip on their shoulder!?

Yes, I think so and also to accommodate some of the newer engine/gearbox combos.

I do know for a fact that the empty space inside the cab and boot is shared between marques..  Just more of it in my O3  :)

I was merely pointing out sound insulation on that post. Iv no doubt they feel abit better and even their standard radio is much posher thsn the fabias, not to mention everything else.

I wasnt defending thr skoda, and i wasnt defending the audi. They both have different target audiences and thebuild, style, practicaliity and price tag proves that point.

Theyre both nice cars, but suit different people.

Would i have an a1? Yes please. Is it worth half as much again as the fabia? Thats debatable.

I do see plenty of a1's on the road though, so obviously people do think they are.

The chip sir, appears to be on your shoulder.

Wish my Audi had a Skoda engine in, it wouldn't be such a pain in the arse to work on.

yes, it's this sort of thread that shows this forum in a rather poor light. Audis are better cars than Skodas, and they're more expensive. Some people are happier spending less and buying a Skoda. Big wow, each to their own, move on.

People posting things like " I couldn't tell the difference between a Skoda and an Audi" or " A Skoda's advantages are that it is bigger and cheaper" are cringe worthy.

Having thought through the question in the original post again, should I be worried, the answer is yes, the engines aren't all that reliable, they've proven themselves to eat their own piston rings and drink their own oil, the whole debacle has been a failure for the vag brand and it's left that with egg on there faces

Personally I think it's skoda who have failed most in recent years, they've strayed away from their roots of building low cost low frills cars that are affordable to the masses, I remember when a poverty spec fabia was 3 grand cheaper than the equivalent polo, now you are lucky if it's 300 quid less than it's brother model, they've gotten expensive and over specified.. Quit frankly I don't know why somebody would buy one instead of a vw when you consider that the second hand retention values plummet like a stone on skoda's when compared to vw.

car makers could do a lot if they realised that there's loads of bits in a car which simply aren't needed, electric this electric that, adjustable widgets.... Pah... I prefer simple raw rudimentary cars with old fashioned windy handles for the windows myself,

I don't get this whole audi argument either, the fact is this, audi's are in fact better cars, there's no question of that, the trim and interior and fittings etc are just better all round

If it smells of marzipan then it's probably a Skoda. :)

Ps kenny.

Are you the one who posted the question on the honest john site?

i actually own a vRS aswell so no need for me to comment

Tell him he eats too much food a week....

Got an A3 saloon. Shed loads of boot space.

Incorrect. As a new dad, boot space is crucial. I'll wager any new parent or parents in general quantify boot space before a purchase.

Check out the saloon or the spaceback.

If you can't get a kids requirements in them, you're doing something wrong or need a class up.

The fact is that the Octavia is not an Audi (And the other way too)

I drove the MK2 Octy again after a week in the A3.

What I like about the Octy 2.

 - The 1L bottle holders in the door. I miss them already

 - Stereo is rather good for factory fit (Audience though)

 - The PD did have a nice old school torque profile.

 - The bag holders (Which Audi have copied)

 - Lots of Storage Space

 - Well thought out.

The Audi is an exec car for people who want quiet, comfort and don't have a family transport as their main reason.

The Skoda has great family aware bits to it. A fantastic family car. (Even better with the B12 kit and 312mm brakes)

The thing is, I would say that the MK 2 is the peak of the Octy, when compared to the MK 1 (owned) and MK 3 (Had for a month or two).

It's just better thought out and was better value for money.

The thing I find so funny is that they are different cars targeted at different markets.

The A3 is based on MQB and the New octy is huge. Totally different cars.

Why do Skoda drivers have some sort of desire to prove how great their car is?

They are great cars (fabia aside ;) ) so just enjoy it and stop trying to prove something.

Is have an audi tomorrow, if i had the money.

But i dont like finance, or borrowing any money. so I'll take the fabia.

It isnt as good, apart from the mirrors. Theyre brilliant haha.

But it does leave me with money to spend on my actual hobby. Motorbikes.

I do look at audis and think how nice they are though :).

What is really shocking about Skodas is that last year nearly half of all sold in the UK were Mk2 Fabias.

this first quarter of 2014, the Mk2 Fabia out sold Octavias, & double as many as Citigos.

It is weird how many people are prepared to spend their money to drive such a poor car.

Or is it just they are pretty good value for money, and they do the job in the main.

Transport for people.

Lets see if Skoda can get the Mk3 Fabia right from the off. VFM, well designed & built,

maybe up the standard of the current crop of rather poor quality controlled cars leaving the factory and being sold in the UK.

Octavia 3, Yeti FL, Superb, Roomster, Citigo, Fabia.

Too many cheap parts causing failures in all the models sadly.

Tarted up bits and pieces that have no mechanical importance,

and over priced options or choice of ECU map, or enable electrics already on the cars,

and not enough spending of a few Extra Euro on the basics and essentials for well built cars.

george

Cant be that bad, or like you say, they wouldnt of sold so many.

Im happy with mine, and your still driving yours, are you not?

People often try to justify what they bought because they paid for it and they like it.

Which means comparing it to other cars they didn't buy.

Fact is most people don't buy the best car on the market, they buy the best value car that fits their requirements within a budget.

Which is why the Fabia is so popular.

It's a decent sized five door hatch/estate with a reasonable sized boot for a sensible price.  So it sells well.

My Fabia Greenline new was about £12k and my Yeti about £24k.

They both do the same job at the end of the day for 90% of users.  So you could say the Fabia was a better buy even though I like the Yeti more.

Oh yes... and IMO Audis are bland. :giggle: (something Skoda is now trying to copy)

All true, but why o why do some of them then feel the need to go on about how much better their cheap car is than the more expensive alternatives?

Cheap cars do a job, we all accept that, but let's be realistic about what they offer and not start making silly claims.

I took delivery of a brand new A6 in September 2007. Over the next 10 months the car spent about 6 weeks at the dealer. Issues included:

Major

1. Complete failure of the electronic management system. It needed to be recovered but, thanks to the electronic parking brake, took the man from the RAC over an hour to get it on to the back of his truck. He needed to keep jacking the front and the back respectively on a trolley to get it into a position to drag it off my drive.

Minor

1. Rattling air vents - ultimately replaced after two attempts at fixing them.
2. New glove box - to cure rattling (again after two attempts to fix).
3. Both front seat mechanisms replaced to fix rattling.
4. Intermittent issues with central locking. First two times failed to replicate when left in Audi's care. Luckily (or not) issue was there the third time.
5. Both rear light lenses full of condensation - apparently not an issue and Audi not prepared to replace!

The dealer really was not interested and it became a bit of a standing joke. If I'd paid for it (it was a company car) I'd have been livid. As it was, I resigned and set up my own business in July 2008 so it was no longer my problem.

Whenever I read about this fabled Audi build quality it always makes me laugh.

Now when I'm spending my own money I've had two Octavia's and an E Class Merc.  The E-Class was the best of the three, but even then didn't really warrant the price differential.

i think in all fairness Audi build quality is usually better but reliability is not. Ive had more faults with my Audis but more trim and rattling issues with my skodas. Every car maker can make a poor car. so to judge on one car is wrong. my friend had Honda which spent 3 months in dealer over 2 years (meant to be as reliable as you can get)

totally agree Audi is no way infalable but im afraid nor is any other maker. we sold a skoda because of more than 20 faults in 18months. but have bought others since.

with cars being so technical and complicated things do fail. i definately think my audi is better screwed together than my skoda. but doesnt mean it will be more reliable.

I always thought these mags made up the letters page - now I am convinced!

i actually own a vRS aswell so no need for me to comment

Yet your profile and signature both reference only the Audi.

You own a Skoda, are posting on a Skoda forum yet chose to display a car other than the Skoda?

A case of I own an Audi and want to let everyone on a Skoda forum know it?
