Does my Audi have a Skoda engine? - Shock Horror!

Featured Replies

You did, just a different one, skoda badge comes with a premium over done cars too! Oh that's right ur car didn't.....really? Lol

You are assuming all Audi's are better than all Skoda's. That simply isn't true.

Some Audi's are better than the equivalent Skoda, but rarely are they better enough to justify the premium.

When I bought our Octavia Scout I drove an Audi A4 Allroad. The Skoda was better. I bought the Skoda.

When I bought our Superb I drove an A6. The Audi had a nicer interior but it was more than 15% more expensive. I bought another Skoda.

I saved a good few grand at the sacrifice of a badge and some 'nicely damped switches'.

  • I ran one of the first mk2 Fab VRS and SWMBO wanted to top it by buying an Audi A1 1.4 TFSi DSG shortly after their launch. So the VRS is parked outside the Audi dealer and we're talking to a suit. W

  • Incorrect. As a new dad, boot space is crucial. I'll wager any new parent or parents in general quantify boot space before a purchase.

  • > Should I be concerned?   Yes.  The car will turn up in 12-14 weeks, but the engine won't be delivered for 6-7 months.

Yet your profile and signature both reference only the Audi.

You own a Skoda, are posting on a Skoda forum yet chose to display a car other than the Skoda?

A case of I own an Audi and want to let everyone on a Skoda forum know it?

Ok the signature is actually from 2008 if that helps. I never got round to updating it.

There does that help? Would it really help if it says vRS?

I'm confused after everyone's comments are deemed irrelevant depending on their signiture

No I am not assuming the Audi is better, I haven't said that so I suggest you read the whole thread! I have actually stated cars should be bought on ability not badge.

Your opinion that the scout was better! Someone else's may differ. Stop worrying what others think of your own car.

Read all the posts and you will see I have actually stated that. We all have different tastes. There are cheaper cars than skodas I don't think that makes the people that bought the cheaper ones any better than the ones that bought the skoda.

Each to their own

I think the most interesting thing about this tread is no matter what you tell people, simple marketing still wins over an awful lot of people when it comes to VAG branded cars.

Take a Superb vs an A6 or an Octavia vs A3 or even a Fabia vs A1. Like it or not in each case you are looking at 2 cars that are 95% the same.....and only really different in superficiality's. Yet a lot of people will still swear blind that the one with four rings on the grille and red backlight dials is the better car..........when they are both, in essence, the same.

Normal practise in the automotive industry.

Examples of this: -

Rover V8 original a Buick design

Lotus Elise used various Rover K-Series and Toyota Engines

Generation 1 BMW MINIS used a Chrysler Engine

Generation 2 BMW MINIS use a joint BMW/Peugeot/ Citroen Engine

If your Audi has a Skoda engine I wouldn't be too worried at least its still a VAG product!

My corolla tsport had a yamaha engine in it :D

I genuinely don't think everyone does to be honest.

If you drive them all they won't drive the same, some seating positions, options, space etc will suit some better than others. Just because Audis are most expensive doesn't make them the best and because skodas are cheapest also doesn't make them the best. Each car will suit people or not in very different ways

I think they call it badge snobbery.

"Having just ordered a Lamborghini Gallardo, I was shocked and surprised to discover it has an Audi engine. Should I be concerned?"

Is it not actually a Skoda engine?

Why have you ordered of those when you could have got a used mk1 Fabia vrs? Even without a stage one remap I reckon the Fabia would nearly keep up with the gallardo between 30-50mph and let's face it that's all that matters in the real world.

I gave serious thought to the gallardo when purchasing my Fabia but in the end I could hardly tell the two apart and just couldn't see that it was worth the extra money.

You made the good decision.

No idea how anyone can live with a Gallardo.

Imagine pulling up to collect your fare and nobody hearing that diesel clatter,

and you need to climb out that low slung vehicle to go knock the door and tell them you are waiting.

Surprised you didn't go for the Audi A1, because as you say it is more expensive and must be a better car than the Fabia......hell, it's not like they share 95% of components or anything. :notme:

To summarise, the only VAG cars we should buy are Skodas lol

Let's hope nobody else starts making a better more affordable car :)

Your opinion that the scout was better! Someone else's may differ. Stop worrying what others think of your own car.

I don't, that's why I chose the Skoda over the Audi.

The same can be said about Bentleys and VW's.

It can also be said with other makes too. I always point out the fastest car before the Mac F1, the Jag XJ220 did have a (Twin Turbo) Metro engine in it. In saying that I don't think there's been a Ferrari with a FIAT engine in it.

Just how many cars had the Rover/Buick V8 or even the old A or K series. The Chevy V8 is quit popular too.

I don't, that's why I chose the Skoda over the Audi.

Exactly!! You are the one paying for it so your opinion is the one that counts! The point I made more than once

Personally I think it's skoda who have failed most in recent years,

The sales figures would disagree with you.

In fairness the sales are false due to 0% and free servicing. Without it the octavia was expensive.

The purchase price gap that was once there is now no longer

yes, it's this sort of thread that shows this forum in a rather poor light.

There's more than enough Skoda bashing here to make up for it mate, sometimes almost to the point of trolling.

I really like several cars in the Audi range but I really like my Skodas too. Some of the negative comments round here these days are almost making that taboo it seems :(

Can we all try and enjoy our cars without the nastiness and bitchiness please.

Sales are sales, globally Skoda make a healthy profit. I would perhaps question Skoda UKs strategy of ramping up the list price so high and then hooking the customer in with strong offers, but it seems to be working for them.

Skoda UK record breaking sales figures and increased sales.

Like a 24% increase over the previous year.

The likes of 66,000 Skoda First Registered in the UK 2013.

53,000 in 2012.

Note not Sold,  in the UK,  as actually new cars to private or Company/Lease buyers.

Just First Registered, often to Skoda Dealers, then sold as Used, Pre Registered.

Low Volume Sales in the UK.

Sometimes instead of the Skoda UK Brand Manager Alasdair Stewart spinning,

he would be better sorting out some of those Franchised Dealers Sales Staff and other Employees.

&

an easy one,

Sort out the Customer Services Staff at Skoda UK.

There are really too many working there that are rather poor in their knowledge of the Product they sell,

& failures some models are having.

Much BS comes from them, and a lack of honesty in quite important failures like with the 1.4 TSI Twinchargers.

**1,800 Mk2 vRS Fabias sold 2010-2012 before the engine was revised. (another 800 since and some of these are failing)

So Skoda UK can maybe say how many have now had new engines fitted,

and even another engine fitted once the replacement failed.

& How many customers they give the run around for months before they get Warranty Work done.

There are now 800 of these cars out of the original Warranty,

and 1000 just still in Warranty.

In the UK, the other 3 Brands sold cars with the same engines 1.4 TSI Twinchargers also failing

in the same way as in the Skoda.

UK Registered, 500 Audi A1 185 ps. 1,200 VW Polo GTI, & 1,200 Seat Ibiza Cupra

Working for skoda as the dealer is covering the interest to make the 0%

Unit sales are unit sales. I was merely pointing out without the offers many wouldn't have purchased. That's all no trolling just a point

The original post does make an interesting point though - I think a lot of people still buy for the badge / status - and can confuse this status with build quality of cars (or components).  I have friends that would not buy  Skoda because it's a Skoda, and would buy an Audi because it's an Audi - regardless of practicality or comfort.

Quite a few cars have been the same with different badges - the old Mazda 121 and fiesta, the Isuzu Trooper and Vx Monterey.  Ford Maverik and Nissan Terrano (I think).  Yet, one model would always outsell the other, for the greater part for the badge.

Just my opinion though, so just remember that I love all of you equally before replying!

Badge snobs, simple as.

Hate them.

Sincerely hope my new Superb isn't going to have an Audi engine btw.  :@

It cost them at least one purchase as high emissions without a much lower list price = more car tax.
