Retrofitting seats with side air bag's to a car that doesn't have them as standard.

Featured Replies

On my last car this was plug and play as they all shared a common loom so the connections were under the carpet. I have a nagging doubt before I go looking that Skoda may not have done this? So my question is can I plug in/enable side air bags on some retrofitted seats or am I looking at a control module upgrade, aux/repair loom etc?

Obviously I can leave them un-plugged and be no worse off, but if I can enable them in a const effective way then it'd be a shame not to.

Thanks :)

You would need to make the looms and wire them into the airbag ECU (if its compatable) and then enable them via the coding of the unit.

Also work noting you probably won't have the side impact sensors either.

Thanks Tech1e, it's a 01 Classic so it's got nothing from the options list on it, other than isofix, but I suspect that was standard at some point in early production before being put on as an option. Where are the impact sensors situated? The first thread I found after searching suggested the airbag ecu has a g sensor, in my naivety i'm still hoping all air bag ecu's were created equal and just the coding/loom changed but remembering the central convenience modules were model specific i'm guessing perhaps not.
