Tough little cars!

OMG!!!! One lucky guy

The fire brigade have cut the door pillar out....that's made it a write-off.

Good time to switch the wheels round - could save a few bob in tyre wear.

Many years ago a friend had this happen to him very late evening and he too got away with little physical damage. Early the following morning he returned to find someone inside the wreckage, removing the radio.

If you have ever watched James Bond, For Your Eyes Only, the white (michelin man) diving suit inside the shipwreck who tangles with JB....well my friend is inside....hi Dickie, if you have a Yeti and are looking in.

Interesting mechanics/physics/forces as to how the engine was flung free, without significent damage to the car bodyshell.

Not terribly familiar with car accidents, but looks "odd"?

And I would seriously wonder if this was a deliberatley engineered in failure feature?

However the car whilst attempting a double backwards summersault.(or whatever other manouver the Driver induced)

May have caught a rocky outcrop.

Still decidedly odd.

Another fixer upper for Mr Fox

Good to see how safe our snow monsters are. Also that driver not seriously hurt.

Thanks to op for posting.

Wow, interesting photo and lucky guy.

1. Is that a rear airbag deployed? Wonder how many Yeti drivers add that option?

2. Looks like the bonnet flipped up and took the load of landing upside down. Which would be an interesting safety feature if it was deliberate!

Won't "T" cut out, needs gaffer tape as well!

Bit of T-cut & polish and it'll look like new!

P.S. Has driver got a beard? ( in joke-see 'beard' thread.)

Yup. If only they hadn't done that it would have been alright...

I'm surprised that the engine and transmission came out of the car and left the wheels behind.

Glad the driver was OK though.

Well that's one way to remove the DPF

Yeah I was looking to buy a faulty DPF !

Back in the early days there was a photo of a few Yeti's and a Superb which had been spilled from a car transporter that had left the road. Some of those were also upside down with the roof still perfectly intact; indeed a very strong shell.

Mind 2wd Yeti's without ESP seem prone to coming off the road on bends, seen a few reports of similar mishaps over the years.

The current brochure states that 2WD have ESP but it's called ESC and it has all the elements the 4WD has i.e. ABS,EBV,MSR,ASR,EDS,HBA,DSR & ESBS.

As for Yeti's prone to coming off the road it can happen to any car depending on who is at the helm and their speed.

In fact the Yeti has quite a wide gate at 1540mm.

I wonder what would have happened if it was petrol?

I'm assuming it's diesel as no signs of fire

Why fire?

This thing about cars catching fire when they crash is actually very rare, and from my experience normally only happens in films/TV. The fuel pumps on both petrol and diesel have a cut-out that is linked to a force sensor, and they react very quickly, so neat fuel is rarely sprayed out. Quite often the fluid that does catch fire is actually hydraulic fluid from the brake and clutch system, but even this has been improved lately with improved reservoir mounting and construction.

Was thinking of vapour escaping when the engine came out

It would certainly have that effect on me.
