Bi Xenon Headlights

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I am currently in the process of registering a RHD  Skoda Octavia 3 VRs estate on the German net and have been told it must have the headlights changed as it will not pass a TUV test without them due to the slight Kick produced by the UK Bi Xenon Headlights to the left and not the right.

I have been quoted 860 Euros for a set of new European Bi Xenons headlights but wondered if anyone on here knows of anywhere I could get them cheaper?

Many thanks for any help given.

Carl

As far as I'm aware (still waiting for my vRS to be delivered) but the alignment of the bi-xenon headlamps on the vRS can be changed from left to right in the setting through either maxidot or the infotainment system (can't remember which).

I know I read a thread on here where someone changed them before driving on the continent.

Don't buy any new headlamps anyway, they'll be the same unit!

fewie,

The tourist setting will only flatbeam the lights, this will not be enough for the TUV test.

Sorry, didn't realise that.

And you will need to get the rear fog lights sorted out as well :)

Have the Fog light changed, it takes 5 mins in the garage, The fog light is already fitted on both sides but they only turn one side on for some unknown reason!

Although they call it a flat beam it is actually a Z Beam with the kick up to the left, the European Bi Xenons will kick up to the right.

Yep, simple change with VCDS, takes 2 minutes

Just to clarify are you talking about BFG or the German civvie net ? Because if it's BFG, tourist mode is ok. As Andyvee says, you would just need to switch the fog lights. If not it's strange that it wouldn't pass a TUV test but is acceptable for a BFG light test.

I am talking about going onto the German Net not BFG as I will be on the German net in the next few months. All I was after is anywhere Bi Xenon European light could be bought for less than 860 Euros.

They are currently only available from the dealer, and the price is set by Skoda HQ.

That is a hefty price. Good luck.

Buying a European spec car might be easier!

Andy, if the OP had bought his car at BFG prices, he would have paid about 17-18k.

German rs list at about 32k (euros) so even if he has to buy the lights, its a hell of a difference!

Tourist mode doesn't flat beam the lights - just offsets the beam pattern and disables the AFS function. This is why continental lights are required - a true flat beam would pass Tuv / MOT.

860 euros (less Mwst?) seems like a good price to me - unless you can find someone who works for Hella* in Paderborn who may be able to get discount. Most of the people I know that were able to get trade parts are no longer in Germany I'm afraid. If you had a Mk2 Octy, Mk5 Golf or Mk2 Leon I have the continental lights in my garage!

*assuming they make the lights still for Octy.
