Typical - near enough the first warm day of the year and the air conditioning now no longer works. I'm sure it was working not so long along (demisting the windscreen) and seems to have stopped working quite quickly.. It's going into the dealers tomorrow for diagnosis.

Just like in October when it starts getting cold the 'condensation' threads begin appearing again. I think I've been lingering on this forum way too long now.

Mine has failed as well on my vrs tdi not what I expected on a car that,s not two years old yet.

It doesn't have to work as hard in the winter, to demist your screen, so you don't realise it is running low.

 

Mine needs a re-gas too, local firm were doing them for £30 last year, hope they do the same deal this year. 

Had mine done at ats euro master for £33 2 weeks ago. That was a offer through amazon local but I don't know if it is still on. Should of been £55 I think.

Compressor has failed :( so back to dealers next week to be fixed.

I'm in this club too. Had it regassed a while ago as it wasn't working, worked fine for almost a week before going to pot again. Went into a local garage yesterday and found out the condenser is knackered (you can see the bottom half of it looks wet, something is leaking!) so that's being fixed on Tuesday. Hopefully the Skoda extended warranty will pay out, but they want to know whether it's accidental damage first (i.e. a stone hitting it). If that is the case I'm paying £417 I could do without.

And I thought it was going to be a topic about shorts and vest tops....

Consensus is re-gas every couple of years. Run it every week for 20 mins to circulate.

 

When I went back to the steelers with my III the other week to sort some niggles, the original sales rep said run the air con once a week for 20 mins all year...

Mine's a little whiffy at times but still cold without having had a regas since new. Might try to find a deal somewhere where I can get them to blast the bacteria as well as a regas, but that probably won't be during the summer cos everyone and their mum gets theirs done so there's less need for them to push deals, unfortunately.

The offer above for ATS includes an anti-bacterial treatment of the system

My 2011 car has climate control, I leave it in Auto/AC all year round. Its had one A/C service so far and has been great.

I am not a hypermiler though...

I'm not sure if ours has ever been regassed. It's a '57 plate with 35,000 miles. Seems to blow pretty cold.

Running it in auto all-year round seems to be the best way, in my experience.

Our other car is a 2002 1.7 puma. That went for an A/C service recently.

No record in service history of it being done prior to our ownership.

Gas was down from 750 to 220 grams. Works brilliant now. It too is left on all the time.

Money saved on fuel is offset when you need a new compressor. The gas carries the lubricant around the system.

Is there actually a recomended time period to have it checked?

 

I'm thinking I may get ours regassed at some point. It seems to work just fine but my worry is if the ammount of gas/lubricant has reduced over the years and it ends up breaking it!

Skoda service schedule is 2 years.

A/C man will tell you 12 months.....

Go for a full service not a regas. The ATS deal is a good one to go for.

Personally I try and use a local specialist for Air-Con issues and wouldn't touch any of the tyre places with a barge pole with their £30 deals. My local specialist only charges £35 and actual tells you what is going on - down to the point where he gives you a pair of UV goggles so you can see no leaks for yourself!

 

Normally they don't put the UV die in to check for leaks, or any oil to lubricate the system (as both are expensive!) and just pump it up with refrigerant and off you go!

True! If your that untrusting I suppose you could always ask to be present while they carry the work out.

That said, if there are problems with your AC it is easier to identify than say being charged for unnecessary work etc.

I had the wee Ford done at a place called BeeCool in northants.

The guy that runs it knows his onions and is happy to do it with customer present. He will talk you step by step what is going on.

Not the cheapest at £50 but standard of work is the highest quality. I can recommend them.if anyone is from this area.
