Slight Whistle When Turbo Kicks In

Featured Replies

Hi, recently I have noticed my mk1 vrs makes a slight whistle noise from about 2k on wards when the turbo kicks in, its very faint sounds to me like a pipe might have come loose and is letting the boost out somewhere.. its been doing it since I fitted my 007 so could it be one of my dump valve pipes loose?..

it is nothing buddy.....

it is because you have changed your DV and the Forge 007 amplifies that sound slightly more than the std DV.

You would of always had that sound even with std DV but you probably did not notice or hear it as much. All turbo cars make that sound or similar due to the spool up of the turbo / compressor wheel.

Does your car feel ok,  good boost and pulls in the rev range ok

Then don't worry

Does it sound like the whistle on this video

Yes thats mine btw

I had my 007 on there before but didn't sound like that last time round.. and no some times it don't boost sometimes it does some times boost wont come in till 5k but I been told that's because I don't have an air flow meter on it lol :giggle:

Please don't tell me my turbo is  on its way..

Mines been making that noise ever since my downpipe snapped at the flexi pipe and was repaired with a new flexi section. That was nearly 12months and 9000 miles ago. My turbo pulls very strong.

Yep sounds just like the vid..

but I been told that's because I don't have an air flow meter on it lol :giggle:

Eh. Seriously

You can't be running without airflow meter right.

Well I suppose the car would run OK up to a point off factory ECU settings but you'll have a light on the dash.

It runs fine without an airflow meter lol

It will run fine with the maf out of the system but the maf gives exact readings. Probably not too far off factory settings but it will run better with a maf. And you must have a light on the dash.

The maf can be mapped out

Engine management light isn't on just the traction control light

But why run without a maf. What is your purpose to do that.
