Briski cyclists?!

I'd looked at this due to their puncture resistance but had put them off as a winter condition road tyre, not really suitable for off road use (except tow paths or easy bridle ways). Sounds like I have that impression incorrect from your description.

I'm looking for something a little knobbly (I think); something like the Schwalbe CX Comp or the Continental CX Speed and probably 28 or 30 mm.

 

The marathon plus are only really suited to road and light off road use, the tread isn't very deep but the marathons have a much deeper tread pattern and they do work very well off road. Don't be put off by the Marathons, a friend put me onto these and he runs them at 700x35 and we've never had traction issues (apart from when its really muddy at which point a proper mtb tyre would be needed).

 

The CX Comps are fantastic, My son uses them for his CX races, they aren't as puncture proof but roll smoothly on the road and are great off road, If you are wanting to avoid punctures with these tyres, I would fit some Slime Tube Protectors as the cx Comps are soft and small stones/flint penetrates the tyres easily.

Thanks for the tips. When I get to Scotland I'll see what the trails are like and make a decision based upon that. I know one route I want to cycle is faulty smooth but the other quite steep and rocky.

I have a Trek full suspension and PlanetX road bike. Couldn't get on with the drops so the OnOne flt bars and gears are mich better.

Another cyclist here too

I ride a Specialized Stumpjumper Evo comp 29er, mainly for trail riding but I do a few uplift days and I did my first Enduro race last year.

Just caught up with this thread, so I thought I'd share a picture of my bikes :)

 

For the road I've got a Viking Roma, which is the second one I've owned (the first got written off crashing into a car). It wasn't particularly expensive but I like it and it works well.

For off the road I've got a Specialized Hardrock Pro, which is also good fun.

Im like you cannot use drops as I have scoliosis of my spine , but twisted on its axis so easier to have any road bike converted to flat bar. The part time poseurs who have all the right gear and no idea blank me though as im apparently just a commuter ( but does 12,000 miles a year on it !

I'm just getting back into it ready for a coast to coast im doing for charity. But in training realised how much i enjoy it. So currently doing about 100 miles a week. Looking to get a few bigger rides in though, most ive done in one go was 56 miles or 80 miles with an hours stop.

Need to crack the 100 i think this month [emoji38]

I never tracked mine when I was cycling lots (pre-Strava / mobile phone / decent computers), but was hoping to crack 1000 this year if I can.

Fair play on your achievement though.

Hi, New to the forum and thought it would be rude not to share my current steed. 

 

2016 transition suppressor - sold as a frame only option as its designed for 26inch wheels but you can fit 650b if you want.  being 26 made it cheaper to transfer my current spec over.

BBC thought that a programme called 'Lose weight for love' was a good idea which is fair enough,

but after being persuaded that i should Lose weight for love i decided that i should take it seriously.

 

So i got a new Specialised Fat Boy SE to replace my clunker 6 speed Fat Tyre 'no name'.

 *Huge amount of weight lost right there.* 'Man Maths'.

I decided that my artificial leg could do with being lighter, so it has been put on a diet as well..

Back to basics light and simple.

 

I have been putting some miles in on my old easy to climb with Diamond Back and getting into climbing without the risk of a heart attack.

Took my distance peddled daily up to 15 miles of tracks last week and upped that to a 25 mile circuit yesterday and today.

So this coming week the plan  is over to using the Fat Boy to cover some miles starting at the 15 miles and do some longer uphills while staying on the bike.

 

Trail-Freeride or Fat tyre E-Bike now not in the future plans as exercise is the most important thing and KISS.

(I had an Electric Hybrid and never actually used it more than a handful of times.)

Shin guards on order as someone has pinched my old ones. (one)

It will be nice to have a new pair and then i can have a dry one which is nice.

 

I suppose i better start looking at doing some changes in eating habits but at the moment my metabolism seems to have had a kick start so maybe just more miles and the same diet will suffice for now.

Recovery / sleep is doing well right now.

 

The cycling is easy, the upper body workout is really good & getting my heart working is what i really needed.

Weight today dressed ready to get on the bike with artificial leg is 119.5 kg June 2016.

If down to 110kg in 6 months i will be Larry.

5th June, so 1 week on.

Today at 116.2kg after breakfast and before heading out on the bike.  Loving cycling again.

Put a pair of used Schwalbe Durano plus 700x28's on it, what a fantastic smooth ride, its an awesome bike for its age (23yr old)

I finally bit the bullet and went for a new bike with hydraulic discs and as it's one that will spend time locked up in public areas, one of the reasons I chose this one is the lack of branding.  The finishing kit on it fairly rubbish (I'm not the sort of person that usually bothers changing it but needing to on this one) but the shifters and hydraulic brakes are superb, I've been riding more confidently on the hoods now as the braking effort is very consistent with minimal effort.  I finally got my first century done which I've been meaning to do for a while but on building up the miles I've always had a bad near miss with a car that's put me off:

I've had the plus bike out a few times now the weather has been better although not getting on that great with it so far, I perhaps need to give it more time.  I wanted it as a faster fat bike in the hope the big tyres would give the feel of the fat bike but with less drag and with suspension on the front for higher speeds but it feels more like a very grippy 29er, even running fairly low the tyres don't soak up bumpy terrain the way the fat bike does which hampers its speed cross country.  It's an absolute beast on fast sections though, on its first ride I cut 25 seconds off my best time on a segment:

Finished my first bike event today. 100 miles, first time ive done anywhere near that much too. Averaged 17.2mph which is good as i was aiming for 16.5. So total time was 5 hours 52 mins, very happy with that.

Now I'm settled in my new job, its time to start cycling to work again.

 

I did a trial run on saturday, just to find my way, I have lots of routes available to me, but I think these figures are pretty close to the mark (going off saturdays trial ride)

56-60 miles per day, 3500-3800ft of climbing (depending on route).  

 

Day 1 - Loving it, roll on the rain & thunder going home :)

My ride to work is 29 miles and home would be 33 but i dont fancy getting up at 3.30am to get to work have a shower etc.

I normally take bike tonwork, get a lift in the next day and bike home.

Over 2000 miles this year now..

Started cycling last year after at least 15 years without owning a bike. Had some gaps of weeks or months when I didn't get on the bike (life just getting in the way)

Completed my first 100 mile ride earlier though
