Potential Furby vRS owner, advice.

Featured Replies

Ok seen as my ZS decided to blow up on me this saturday it looks like I may be switching to a vRS sooner than I orriginally planned.

So i was just wondering if there is anything to know about the furby, anyone known problems or annoyances? I'd like both good and bad experiences.

I went for a test drive in one on saturday and was well impressed so I'm pretty certain that this is the car i want, i just want the opinions of those that have owned one for a while, cheers!.

Well

If you do a search, you just might be unlucky & find some faults with the vRS, there is only 1 that i have.

Colour of the seats :( if you find a dealer that can get it leatherd for you & you can affords it " Just do it ". the cream & dark are a F*****G PIAN to keep clean, even with the Teflon coating on it. :( :( :(

I agree about the seats, I have tried to live with them just being careful but they now reside under a pair of ill fitting covers, otherwise I have had no problems at all and a breath of fresh air after owning a Renault! but I know a few other members are not so happy.

I bought mine in April, using it as a driving school car, done 13,000 miles so far , and the only fault has been a bonnet that's difficult to shut, they fixed this on the first service (and polished my car! ) so I'm quite happy :)

its a skoda reliability comes as standard ( i know as i deal with fleet management)

I've also been looking at getting a furby but the interior colour was putting me off (18 mth daughter!) as keeping it clean is going to be a b*tch!

I mentioned this to my local dealer (Caffyns T/Wells) and they'd swap the interior for the one out of a sport model (same seats etc but in black) for

Dandaman

Rear brakes squealing, fuel filler release cable coming off, window washer hoses coming loose, noisy gear lever/linkage, leaky door seals, high oil consumption, seats mark easily, knocking engine mounts and knocking anti-roll bar bushes, and turbo hoses popping off are the ones I have seen come up regularly...... :D

Chris

I think it's more that the VRS door cards match the seats than the other way around but i've got no probs with that.

Unfortunately i believe the VRS logo is embroidered on.

My biggest concern was that by doing this i'd end up with a car too unique to me & therefore either affect the resale value or desirability as & when i got rid.

Also I'm quite taken with the Yellow paint (Silver = boring, black = b*tch to clean & Red = fade). Any horror stories on one colour over any other???

lfc958 - So having 'experienced' both seats you deffo think the Sport ones are better?

yellow hard to sell when i had a yellow S3 took me about 2 months to sell her

Red shouldn't fade if you use a good wax polish on it :D Only downside of yellow is that it attracts a lot of insects in the summer months, which might mean you spend more time cleaning it  Look really good in the flesh though :D My vote goes for black, but I would say that as that was what colour mine was ;)

How bad are these seats, the main reason i like the interior is because of the colour of the seats!! If they simply require cleaning every other week then that i can live with.

Thats quite a list, i take it you wouldn't recomend one then?

Not my place to say whether the car is any good or not, so I just wanted to point out problems other people have had with their cars ;)

You're entitled to your opinion and as a potential buyer i'd like to know both sides, if in you don't like it having owned one i'd like to know why.

I don't think you will find too many unhappy owners here.

The seats are light coloured so you just have to be careful with them.

Between the two cars we've had one or two minor issues which are mostly resolved and shouldn't put you off.

Gear lever rattle.

Rear tail gate struts leaking oil.

ARB drop links replaced.

Exhaust rattle.

Oil leak from filter body.

Turbo hose blow off.

No problems for me EXCEPT a mystery noise after i've used the brakes that sounds they haven't realised properly.

I have owned mine for 14months now, and it has been great :D

Only problems so far:

Rattle in the drivers door caused by broken electric mirror switch.

ummmmmm

Sometimes the clutch pedal creaks slightly

Thats it

I fitted eibach suspension because I didnt mind making the ride a bit stiffer and the handling is now excellent. Its slightly harsh over manhole covers, pot holes but then you get to a corner and its wonderful!

When i test drove one i actually didn't think the hangling was that bad at all, certainly better than i was expecting. So those sorts of mod i'd only consider if I really wanted to thrash it round the bends.

The ZS i drive now, although handles fantastically, i find a bit too harsh so i think i'm getting old as i'd happily sacrifice a bit of corner speed for a better quality ride.

I think the "problem" with the seat colour is totally overstated IMO. I'm not exactly the cleanest or most careful person in the world, and mine were always alright. Hell even a bottle of Dr Pepper burst in the boot and stained the seats, but they washed out alright.

As for colours, the choice is limited, but IMO, the yellow one looks like puke on wheels. Horrid. Looks alright on Seats, Fiats and that type of car, but on the Furby, definitely not :thumbdwn:

I would stick with the normal suspension then :)

I think Skoda got it right with the setup, if you look at the range of people who buy the car. If people on here say its too soft they are generally car enthusiasts who are into modding/track days, but they are only a small percentage of owners overall.

Had mine for two years now and these are the problems:

Rear washer pipe popped off.

Washer fuse blew in frosty weather (known problem - higher rated fuse put in).

Squeeling brakes - VAG fix fitted.

Air con motor failed - had the choice of bloody hot or bloody hot air.

Seat base became loose - replaced.

Laquer bubbling and peeling off - being investigated.

Rubbery grinding noise - failed track rod bush.

well i spoke to my dealer about lead times and they look pretty good, but did say if you're after basic spec they have a red one on site, and a black and silver one at the docks all of which should take around a week before ya can pick it up.

I'd ideally like black but because I will be without a car at the time speed of delivery is very important, the only i won't have is yellow, so i will just see which ones they have at the 1 week lead time stage.

If you find a community of several hundred owners of a single car model, you're going to get a big list of niggles, whatever the car.

Skoda are the most reliable manufacturer in Europe, simple as.

The seats require care, but if you can get in without standing on them and eat a Mars bar without dropping it you'll be fine. I spend over 4 hours a day in mine and the drivers seat is immaculate.

Only problem is when I let the missus in it

Don't get Black pain to keep clean and they look c**p dirty. I've replaced ARB's due to noise but thats all in18k miles. Don't buy it if you lug a lot off stuff or people around it is only a super mini size. Don't buy if you need a towbar.

Do buy if you want decent overtaking performance when required, 50mpg and GRP 9 insurance. Oh and a very reliable car, if you think the faults listed here are extensive have a look in other threads and forums.

I own an MG if i listed all the problems i'd had with it since I bought it i'd be here all day!! lol

So there's nothing that has me concerned, as you say in a large pool of people with the same car you will find problems that's expected even if you pay
