Does anybody have a car addiction illness?

Featured Replies

I think i have an illness when it comes to cars...

Since i started driving 9 years ago i have had 13 cars. So thats an ownership period of less than a year.

I have had my current car 10 months which is pretty good going for me. But i have the urge to change it. Even though changing as often is basically like throwing money down the drain.

All my previous cars haven't really had any issues i just chop and change them as i fancy something different.

I just wish i could be content with one car and have it for a period of 3-4 years.

Does anyone else have this same bank balance smashing illness?

Yup. My uncle buys a brand new golf gti every year or so, and has done for abit the last 5 or 6 years.

Hes doing well with this one actually. Hes had it for 2 years now.

He's changing to a golf R soon though.

All are bought brand new and part exchanged when he fancies a new one.

Throwing money away? Certainly!

The money i have spent over the years is rediculous. If i hadn't of chopped and changed around so much i could probably be driving a brand spanking m3/4 by now :o

Yeah! Haha.

But then atleast you get a feel for all different cars n that.

Im jealous of company car drivers. They get the best deal IMO.

Oh yes. My mate has a brand new golf gt tdi.

He has no concept of car ownership / cost. I know he pays tax towards it and very little diesel costs but he's running around in a brand new car for very little money.

Also no repairs / services / tyres.... Grrrr

Yup. Its perfect isnt it.

My dad used to get them before he retired. Used to get a big list through the post of pretty much everything.

The higher up the business you get, the less you tax you pay on the cars too. Ideal.

Shame some people dont treat them as their own though, and just abuse them.

Yep, addicted.

Currently got 8 cars and I'm not sure how many I've bought and sold in the past 5 years

Yeah lol my dad rarely washed his. But tbf, it was going from here (near manchester) to wales, around wales, then back again, atleast 4 days a week. So it got dirty again straight away haha.

That's not an addiction yet.

My name is Craig and I have a problem........

I stopped counting years ago but I really I have been riding Bikes and driving cars for 27 years and have had I would say around 150 cars and around 20 bikes.

This would have been more but I have had company cars for the last 12 years so I haven't changed my own cars as much.

I think in the past 12 years although running company cars I have still had around 25-30 cars and 8 bikes.

I'm sure I do but it's held in check by an empty wallet

Waits for Boss Fox to show up....

If there's anybody on here with a car problem its him.

I started driving 22 years ago and have had

Mark 2 Escort, Mark 5 Cortina, Sierra Estate, Sierra Hatch, Saab 9000,

Mark 3 GTI, Bora, Fabia, MX5, S3. so just 10 cars.

Had the MX for about 6 months so that was the shortest ownership period and kept

the Golf for about 6 years which was the longest.

Bossfox busy buying another challenge I think :D , I've a serious addiction stopped counting now but not stopped buying ;)

I would have a car buying addiction but it's purely down to cost. It does take me ages to decide what car to buy. I'd planned to change my Fabia vRS but I'd lose too much on it so spending on upgrades instead.

Bossfox is a braver man than me when it comes to changing cars. I dread to think how much the loss is. But equally you only live once and you can't take it with you. As long as you didn't use multiple credit cards and Wonga to do it and most importantly can afford to do it without it hurting family life then fine.

Been driving for 27 years first 14 years changed my car quite regularly, shortest period of ownership, 1.3 Maestro HL had that for 3 weeks, had roughly 25 cars in that period. Last two cars I have kept for years, 96 Vectra 2.5V6 kept for 6 years, now on my MK1 Octy VRS which I have now had for just over 7 years. Must have wasted a fortune in that first 14 years.

I'm the same. Been driving since 2001 and I'm on my 13th car. I've had my current one 14 months and really want to change it for some unknown reason. The thing that keeps me on the straight and narrow is that I won't use car finance so in order to change I buy them outright (hence why I never have new ones) but like you, I've wasted so much money that I could of either had a nice brand new car or paid a good chunk off my mortgage. I really do wish I could just settle with having a car for even 3 years but I'm just bored of them. It's not like I buy/want particularly luxurious or fast cars either! I'm thinking of either a nissan quashqai or a Octavia scout or seat altea freetrack4 for the family.

Indeed.

I have a problem.

Bought 11 in the last year I can think of...

Yeah it's not brilliant here either in less than a year of driving I'm up to 4 cars :notme: still got 3 of them which is even worse

I have two cars and love them both, but end up fancying a change quite quickly.  If I'd only kept my B5 Passat, which I'd owned for seven years and is still going strong, I'd be £12k richer now (in theory).  I have four routine searches being followed on ebay and am currently bidding on three cars (but only one seriously - the other two are 'heck if they're daft enough to let them go at that price' bids).

I've only owned 16 cars in 33 years driving so consider myself an amateur compared to some of the 'holics so far!  B)

Gaz

Passed test in 2003; have owned 24 cars. Quite worrying! My vRS Octavia is the car which I have owned the longest and have no plans to change..............for once!

I think I have a bit of an addiction, 12 cars over a 4 year period

Im on car number 18 at the minute, i will have been driving for 4years in september

In 21 years my totals are:

4 motorbikes

2 cars ( 9 years of company cars between the two)

:D

I suspect my yet-to-be-built Octavia is the start of more regular changes as it's being bough... rented on PCP ;)

Ive been driving 23 years & have had 15 cars & one transit van(which i kept for 8 years then scrapped it)....ive had this octy nearly 4 years, thats the longest ive kept a car up to now & i have no plans to get rid just yet.

Been driving 28 years - have always owned a car but only ever had 6...   longest ownership is my MX5 at 16 years and still here, closely followed by the Fabia at 13 and still here a Mitsubishi Colt at 11 years that was moved on to make way for the Fabia.

I get the feeling I'm slightly unusual??
