Only Fabia 1.2 12V in the world with Cruise Control!

Featured Replies

I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction as I have come to a dead stop. My son decided to install the offical Cruise Control kit from Skoda in his 2006 Mk1 Fabia 1.2 12V Sport. By "he decided to" what I actually mean is he ordered it against my advice and I was then forced into helping him fit the flipping thing. Instructions were a bit bare, and getting the airbag out was fiddly but good progress was made, until we got to the point of installing the white wire on pin T11a/PIN 10 on the transverse wall. Much googling and scratching of heads and it appears that there is no change in hell of getting to this without removing the entire dash. (Did not want to do this for obvious reasons).

I did find reference to people running the wire instead direct to the ECU so got a length of wire and temporarily ran it from the white cable in the car to the white wire in the ECU (There was chatter that pin 14 on the ECU was the one to use, but I couldn't identify this accurately and apparently the white wire is the one to go for).

Having done this, I tried to use VCDS-Lite to enable the cruise control, and this is where I am stuck. Having gone into the Engine Module and then Login, and putting in code 11463 followed by Do It!, the program just locks up and has to be killed through Task Manager. Tried this multiple times, with and without ignition on and/or engine running. Tried using the code to disable also (16167) but to no effect.

Does anybody know if the white wire I have connected to is the right one for this car/engine? If this connection has any effect on enabling the cruise through VCDS? Anything else I have missed or am doing wrong? It has occured to me that perhaps this engine does not support cruise, buy my son assured me he checked this with the dealer he used and it is supported.

Any help would be much appreciated. I have attached some photos which may help. Thanks.

The engine supports cruise (however the kit is listed as not recomended for the 1.2 iirc). You may not have the correct central electrics control unit for it though (need a 6Q0 or 6Q1). If your VCDS Lite an official product? Sounds like there are issues anyhow with your VCDS, i'm not 100% sure if Lite allows you to program things like cruise anyhow.

Pin 14 is for the diesels, I think the 1.2 is something like 44, the numbers are on the plug but it should be the single white wire.

I have fited a few to the 1.2 in the past.

Thanks tech1e, how do I tell which central electrics unit I have? Also, you can see the wire I have used in the photo, it is the bright white one in the middle of the shot, does this look like the right wire? He got his VAG lead from ebay with a CD with VCDS-Lite on it, so probably not legit. I guess if the wire is correct, I should find someone with full VAG-COM to carry out the coding? Thanks again... :notme:

You can tell what unit you have by going into (09) central electrics and the part number is displayed. I can't tell from the photos, I would need to look at the plug. However should you have that wire incorrect you will still be able to program it, you will just get a fault code.
