I've seen a local garage at

saw diesel at 99.9p/l in Atrincham today... that's the dearest I've seen yet.....

On a SLIGHTLY (not much :() more positive note I got my car filled up at 93.9ppl from tesco the other day but because I spent more than

Marlborough rip off station is now

Petrol

I've just heard from a good source that from Friday petrol prices will go up 25-30p (or 40c) all over Europe

I just hope its not true. Either way I'm filling up on Thursday...

Just drove pas my local texaco garage,

Petrol super unleaded was 104.17p a litre

diesel 101.7p a litre

Not a chance.

That's just scare-mongering.

Oh , and in some ways you have to feel sorry for the americans.

Our fule has gone up by about 25% in 3 years.

Theirs has almost tripled in price in the last 2

it's still cheaper than what we pay and they waste it with stupid big engined, poor MPG, rubbish cars so no I dont feel sorry for them :P

Just paid a rip off 89.9p a litre!!! thank you supermarkets and your 5p off promotions!

I have a quick question guys,

I have to fill up tonight (warning light is on) and i can't decided whether to

a/ Totally fill the tank and make it last

b/ Just put enough in to get to the weekend

Does anyone know if the price is going up or if its going down?

IMHO may as well fill it up..it ain't gonna get any cheaper..at best the supermarkets may 'stand the increase' for a short time but it won't go down.

think the tractor boys are on the roll again..the BBC showed a few protestors dusting off their banners this morning...

..looks like the red diesel tank at work is going to be a bit 'out' when it comes to inventory time...

Well I'll pop round for some if you don't mind :D

"More than half the fuel used in the UK bears little or no fuel duty at all... so seeking to address the problem of high oil prices through road fuel duty alone would do nothing for the majority of consumers."

little or no fuel duty! Since when?

I'm sure something could be arranged*

* I accept no responsibility fo the lovely pinky colour the inside of your engine will be :D

It is now interesting to watch the pump and see the litres climbing slower than the pounds ;)

If you operate a Public Service, ie,National Coach trip, Registered Local Bus Journey, Ferry, Train (they use a whack of all diesel fuel)- duty is refunded if you behave yourself.

I'm assuming Emergency Services are duty paid too so only really cars and trucks are using U.K taxable fuel.

I don't understand the need for a protest. The hikes are an increase in oil prices rather than an increase in taxation which is lower than at the time of your last protest 6 years ago as the article states.

As for where does it stop, is he compaining that Coca Cola is always increasing, the price of newspapers are increasing because of inflation! It's not going to stop!

Hope the minute they block a refinary, or a road, they are picked up by the police and slammed in jail- they are helping nobody by that just harming the general public. I agree hauliers don't get a fair deal, when compaired to european hauliers, but how is that going to help? It will just let in all the foriegn haulers in to take the goods around as they have fuel!

"More than half the fuel used in the UK bears little or no fuel duty at all...

On probability its true if you move the goalposts to include lower duty fuels for heating and agriculture etc as well ...

so seeking to address the problem of high oil prices through road fuel duty alone would do nothing for the majority of consumers."

..it might not affect the price Muhammed AL Joe Bloggs charges for his barrel of oil but the pump price, and thats where it WILL do something for the majority of users, and can certainly be addressed by changes to fuel duty..

.. why is there no provision to lower duty when there is a temporary high demand for oil due to a natural disaster... why not have a 'contingency levy' to stop panic buying, hikes in transport costs and fuel blockades - which, after they have brought the country to a standstill, cost the ecomony a damn sight more than the temporary loss in revenue will ever do.

Just a thought... if we have another blockade, will Tony Bliar send in the army's Greengoddesses to transport fuel out of the refinery?

  • 2 years later...
