Should a seat bolster be worn at 112000

Featured Replies

As in holed....steering wheel's quite bad too, the miles tally up with the service book and mot though....unless they're hooky too

My old 04 Astra diesel is 114000 and not any wear on these, are Skoda's bad for this

I think it depends on the type of use it's had. If it's only done short journeys with people hopping in and out regularly they will wear a little more quickly.

And the driver, might have been wearing rings. Could of been a larger gentleman (or woman!) and since these seats have big bolsters can take a beating!

Check the past 4 years MOT Mileages on the DVLA/VOSA site if you think the car is clocked.

It might or might not help.

Wear on seats can be as mentioned above, user, Clothes type worn as in Jeremy Clarkson Types, Fat Men or Women in Jeans, Harris Tweed & things on their fingers.

Drivers with big bolsters :) can destroy these seats very quickly. More and more drivers are heavier than the 135kg and 150kg limits used in the design of seats.

Cheers chaps.....thought I put this in Octy not here hence couldn't find it

The last 4 mileages tally up as does the service book, it must have a bloody rough/hard life....as the front subframe's been replaced lately too.....my mate's now not interested (he's going for something else) I might, but at only 70 hp it's a slugg

Moved.

It seems a genuine car from an older man but it's a slug

I've noticed older people tend to crash into the seat when they get in rather than sitting down on it. I noticed my mum doing this in her car and you could see crumple marks in the bolster after barely any mileage at all.

It probably is genuine then.....but like I say, it's a slug, think it's 70hp or 90 at most, had to laugh at the ad "body in excellent condition" must be a different car :), it's not bad but not "excellent"....I guess people's idea of that range by a mile

Apart from all the stuff mentioned, it drove well enough, just no "go"

It might help if you tell us what the car is.

It is not uncommon for seats to be worn when over 100k if the driver had keys hung off their trousers or a wallet in their back pocket.

02 (51) octy 1.9

You're probably right but it's long before now but probably still been big arsed rough as f**k guy...ie the last owner for 5 yrs

02 (51) octy 1.9

Is it a TDi or SDi as that will give us an idea for the performance.

Only obvious trim wear on mine (52 plate) is a small hole in the driver's footwell carpet (but not where I rest my heels!?)

Deffo depends on previous owners, my last vrs had done 150k when I sold it and the Seats were absolutely mint where as my dad's has done 85k and the bolster is worn down but he's a bit of a fat old bugger! (don't worry he calls himself that too!).

got mine at 125k miles with a shredded drivers seat bolster, its from the short hop driving etc and i actually met its previous owner down the local recycling centre,

nice guy, but seemed the type to drop into the seat and climb out of it using the seat as a handle....

its a 2004, 1.9 90bhp Tdi, which has a decent shunt if gear changes are timed just right,

Fine, it lacks the the ultimate top end speed,

but tbh the vast amount of my driving is in traffic and on speed camera'd roads so dont really need the high end - beyond 80/85 on motorways.

It's an sdi

Reading mac's post....it makes sense, I guess 90 hp is adequate as most of what I'd use it for is short stop start stuff.....it's just acceleration (or lack of) that got me

Edited by Ian9

Can probably out accelerate an SDi if you were running tbh, think there about 65bhp? in a tank like the octavia. Not the best combo for performance

Not just me then....I guess if I got one I'd need a map or tuning box on it or go for a 130 hp emgine

lol, i bought my last VRS with 60K on the clock and the whole bolster was exposed, he was a big lad tho!

My seats are up to 233k miles and still look to be in perfect condition, but I only weight about 58kg :-)

As said the SDi is around 65-70 hp so not a road burner. But on a plus point they can do big miles and you have no turbo to worry about.

Put it this way - our work vans fleet is 2011 Transit Connect, 1.8 Turbo diesel chucking out a whoping 75bhp.

they are terrible... one of MWay i drive it on regularly has a very steep climb.

hitting the bottom of the hill on full bore  at the( limit + plus 10% + rounding up a little) kph, I'll be doing well to be at the 120kph speed limit at the top.

Took my Octy up it another day, and out of habit hit the bottom of the hill at the same speed on full throttle.

realised half way up the hill id better lift off the go faster pedal, as i was going faster ... and faster.... first time the Octy had been up to "that" speed and it was up a serious climb!!!

took me rather by surprise!

the Sdi is around 60 - 65 bhp, so yeah, just not enough in these cars.

Jesus H Christ, a male who weighs less than me!!!!! (63kg after a big dinner...)

I didnt think it was actually possible
