Do i put my name down for the fmic? I keep thinking its just to good to miss but do i really need it? I can afford it thats no probs but im suppose to be saving to buy a house abroad next year. I know it can only be my choice in the end but i would like some pro's and con's or a little convincing :D and peoples general thoughts. (keeps repeating to oneself "must not bow down to peer pressure" )

A FMIC will prolong the life of the car - this is a good thing.

My thoughts exactly. I don't need it, I'm not convinced of the gains yet (i'd like to see some good figures)

But it does look bloody nice :D

I would just like to add that this would be my first mod, i have done nothing to the car apart from the green air filter and octy vrs wheels. So also i have been thinking do i sort the supension and brakes out instead?

Get on Chicken! Cluck cluck cluck. :D

Or go for the PD160 Cupra FMIC on the other thread. ;)

Yep I would - think safety mate.

Get the car sorted before you add more power.

Exactly, spending

I would get the -25 eibachs before the brakes, as you may find the stock brakes good enough. The pitching is reduced a lot once lowered and as a result the brakes do seem to improve.

Also this is aimed at jason, have you got the kw vairent 2 coilovers and how much were they?

I've not checked myself but someone else who has done the sums told me that by the time you add on your discount etc it's only a

Mine aren't KW coilovers - they're made by FK - were

Cheers jason, i know alot of people are saying just buy it, but it does make more sense to sort out the other areas first.

This was my prefered order

Brakes

Suspension

Re Map

Exhaust

FMIC

I did the First cannonball with only the first 3 mods & I was more than pleased with the cars performance. The FMIC definately helps on the track & on really hot days but you can live without it

No disrespect meant, but what power gains are you expecting from a FMIC?

Perhaps on a petrol motor you could see some spectacular gains but it will be very marginal on the diesel engine. It will however help to reduce heat soak which will keep your power closerit to what s supposed to be on a warm day, you will maybe see, as Blackmagic put it , around 10bhp max, which is hardly enough to require the brakes or suspension to be upgraded.

I can see your logic in the order in which you have listed your "to do's" but at the same time with a financial head on you are making a saving of circa

The thing that annoys me most about the car is the sluggishness on a hot day... Bet you can lose a considerable amount of power on a hot one. The smoke and fuel consumption issues also make the FMIC top of my list.

Then I want coilovers and wheels, then brakes. Then exhaust and custom map. Then ICE, and leather...

Sorted

As Mr Big said, I'm on it to so I guess I'm going to by bias :P

I wont be fitting my straight away it will stay somewhere save until I have the extra funds to fit it or the guts/time to have ago myself.

It's a good saving but if in doubt then dont go for it, at the end of the day it's your money and your car.

Though if you dont I "may" never speak to you again  :P

Jesus christ you bunch of whinging pussies!!!

Get it bought!... its great on a hot day, it improves fuel economy, it looks good, it gives (a little) more power, is actually lighter than the OE unit, and doesnt use those silly quick-release clip things..

its SOOOOO easy to install, even i could do it.. all you need is a torx bit and a screwdriver to tighten the jublee clips!.. whats so hard about that?

Im not really expecting any any gains not without a reamp. But i would like i one before i get a remap so i can get the best out of both products. Its what do i spend my money on or dont spend it at all?

Well you've heard most of the angles now so i guess the only person that can make that decision is you :D

I have modded quite a few bit's now. I had 312mm brakes with Pagid FR pads ( were from a 2k mile S3 ), found they overheated a lot more than the standard discs and pads. It may have been down to the wheels not allowing enough cooling. They were some MK 17". Went back to 16" and standard brakes what a whole lot better. Now going back to 17" ( thanks Tony) and I know my brakes will look silly but at least I don't have to worry about the fade. I may try different pads in the 312's and see what happens.

My list of mods would be.

PD 130 intake + JR filter.

Seat or similar strut brace.

KW or similar lowered suspension, this negates the need for a brake upgrade. When the car doesn't squat as much ( 35 mm lower front 40mm lower rear )

Next it's up to you Remap, tunning box, FMIC, big turbo & injectors any one will help add to the pleasure.

P.S I never voted as I'd be biased.

Forgot to add Derek, if you get Matchmakers wheels can I have your interior
