Some Supermarket Fuel Prices down.

Featured Replies

I see Asda are saying that they are at the lowest price since 2011, with Unleaded 95 ron @ £1.26.7 & Diesel @ £1.29.7

Tesco & Morrisons down as well.

Lets see for just how long it goes on before some World Events or UK Industrial Actions change all that.

Maybe but in no way is £1.29l cheap.

I'm sure they rely on the sheep's short memories.

Shame i cant bare to think about using supermarket fuel.

Most places round here are136.9  for Derv. Further away , Tesco want 133.9.and Coventry Sainsbury want similar, but at Tamworth Sainsbury I got it at 129.9. So much for national pricing, as it's little distance to Coventry. Locally we have had an application for an ASDA station approved on an old site, heped along by an ex mayor, our MP, salivating on the prospect of votes with a quote of "any lowering of prices....." - I'd suspect we'll see a drop of 1-2p over local fuel barons.

Not if you brew you own. Well under £1 a litre.

Local place is 133.p for DERV and 130.9p for petrol.  No supermarket fuel within 20 miles  .

nice to see the gap closing between DERV and poof fuel.

 Does such a thing exist??

recently saw 2 tescos 12 miles apart with a 3p difference - the cheaper one had a an ASDA rival round the corner

Given world events of late, the price of oil has been remarkably stable. This may change as we get towards winter when demand rises, but as long as America doesn't threaten to go to war with anyone, maybe it'll continue.

The pound has steadily risen in strength against the dollar recently which is helping.

I've always thought world markets, wars etc just excuses for putting prices up

I think all supermarkets price petrol at what they think we'll pay and what the garage round the corner is doing

I've always thought we were doomed once over the psychological £1 a litre barrier

What difference does another penny make £1.01,£1.02 etc

Supermarkets knew it.look how long we stayed at 99p a litre

I think they've pushed a penny at a time seeing how long before we all got fed up

£1.30+ and people have had enough

The price we pay in the UK for fuel is excessive and can in the main be attributed to two key factors; the desire of the government to rake as much tax from sales as possible and the desire of the oil companies to keep profits up. Motorists only fit into the equation as we are the ones they need to sustain them, and all their excesses.

The point about breaking the £1 barrier is spot on imo, once they got through that with no adverse reaction the rest has been plain sailing. You have to wonder at what point we motorists will eventually snap into some kind of revolt. Will it be when the price goes over £1.50 a litre? Will it be the countless money making schemes targeted at motorists?

As for supermarket pricing, we have a tesco now in our village and their price matches the local joe bloggs garage price. And will remain that way due to an agreement they have with joe bloggs garage that they won't undercut them within 5 years of opening, which was 2011. Meanwhile, 10 miles away in Carluke or 12 miles away in Wishaw, tesco regularly sells fuel for 5p a litre less than we are asked to pay. Asda in Larkhall is cheapest around but sadly doesn't sell 98/99 RON fuel.

Think Asda Larkhall is 126.7 for regular unleaded and 129.9 for diesel. Our tesco is 129.9 for unleaded, 134.9 for diesel and 136.9 for Momentum.

Our local Tesco isn't allowed to sell fuel cheaper than our local garage (was private owned selling Jet now a Nisa as of a couple of weeks ago) so it's fuel is always the same price as the Nisa one. But when I had my old Pug I found I got more MPG out of the Tesco fuel so have never used anything but since I bought the Fabia.

Why?

Then beer is too dear too!

BEER PROTEST NOW.

Militant CAMRA activists to your bunkers!

Why?

It opened in 2000 so was before I gave a damn about this sort of stuff or had any memory of anything really, but I think it was something to do with not allowing competition and taking away custom from the other garage. I can't remember who it was that was mentioning it recently either. But it's always been either slightly more expensive or the exact same price.

Why?

Can't say if its the same for the poster from elsewhere, but the tesco here had to reach agreement with local businesses and councillors prior to getting planning permission to open in Lesmahagow. Part of the agreement was with the existing service station (Thames) that they would price match for a period of at least 5 years.

Having reached agreement with local traders and councillors about investment that tesco would make in the village (population somewhere around 7k), the store opened prior to Christmas 2011. Since it opened, the village has lost 2 pubs, the only butcher shop we had, similarly the local fruit and veg shop closed and the Co-Op moved out. We have been left with 3 cafes, 2 pubs, a library and 3 takeaway shops.

But hey ho, Momentum is down to 132.9 a litre so all is now well. Yay.

Pretty much sums it up to be honest. We used to have a quality fair in the shops at the top of our street which used to have a butchers, fish mongers and massive fruit and veg section but that lost business and got taken over by the Coop who reduced the size of the shop, took out the butchers, fish mongers and veg section and went into pre-packed almost out of date rubbish, and sold the other half of the shop off after a few years and that became a little car shop (yay) but it doesn't stock much on the good side of stereos and big boars though because that's what the area is like. I bought a pump and a battery box from there when I passed my driving test and had the Pug which wouldn't start after pumping a tyre up and then a short Aux cable when I bought the Fabia but that's about it. Anyone that lives in the area will be aware that they are developing the sports field opposite Tesco and rumor has it that they are putting an Asda there as well as a Sports Direct and there will be a big cinema too. We already have an Aldi and Lidl near us which comes to some relief because the Catterick Tesco is the most expensive Tesco in the country (because they take advantage of the army wives) So hopefully an Asda will provide some much needed competition for them.

 Does such a thing exist??

My point- despite supermarkets saying they compete- it's against the local market and charge what they think  they can get away with.

Never. For a revolt to happen, people in this country would have to grow spines. Champions of armchair critiqué; masters of doing fack all.

If Hitler was alive today, and WWII was being played out as we speak... we'd lose, because the current generations are a waste of space who would rather stick their heads in the sand *points to economic crisis that loomed for decades and ruined us*

In fact, I guarantee if we all "went on strike" and refused to buy fuel / use our cars, many selfish d*ckheads would use it to their advantage, knowing full well they could fill up their cars and drive on the highways without fear of queues and jams... and sod the greater good that the rest are fighting for.

Sainsbury's in Chippenham ,Wiltshire. Unleaded £126.9, Super Unleaded £131.9, think Diesel is £132.9.

Off to London today, so will be interesting to see if those who have larger pockets pay more!

Where the money is in the North and where the UK Oil Capital is for the Companies,  & many have Deep Pockets and short arms,

the Unleaded & Super is priced as you say.

But Diesel at Asda & Sainsburys is £1.29.9  & at Tesco £1.30.9

Not normally, yes if you go to anywhere on an A road, trunk road or within the CCZ. It's 131.9 for both unleaded and diesel (weird I know) at my 3 closest stations in wimbledon. They've been gradually decreasing for the last year.

Asda announce they are price cutting again in time for the Bank Holiday Weekend.

I don't particularly care which fuel I use, when it says it's got a range of 10-20 miles on the computer, I go for the nearest place, whether that's a supermarket or 24hr service station where I can get super unleaded.

I might try normal unleaded next time to see if there's any significant difference.
