help me fix my grinding noise :(

Featured Replies

hey guys

so i bought my skoda in december and its always made a strange grinding noise (bearing noise) so ive tried my best to fix it.

I had all the bearings in my gearbox changed... still there

Changed the right side front wheel bearing as thats the side the noise comes from.... still there

i finally felt like i had a break through when it failed its mot a bent drive shaft, as it turned out that the shaft was rubbing on the anit roll bar! i just back in from changing the shaft to a brand new thinner one and guess what? its still there :(

Can anyone please help me before i give up with my choda :(

"what?" its a horrible grinding noise, sounds like a really s**ty bearing but thats now ruled out as all have been changed

"where? " front of the car

"how" this is the question we have all been asking :(

i made sure the CV joint was fine and it was, but this was also part of the shaft kit i bought so its had a new cv joint.

I feel asif its important information to say i bought the car with adjustable coil-overs and its been lowered.

Try examining the tyre walls for buffed patches, and the dampers, wheel arches (outers and inners) where the tyres might touch them.

Are you a troll or what?

You haven't said what (if any) car.

Anything other than "grinding noise". It doesn't sound as if you would know what grinding is.

"at the front" having a laugh surely?

Go away and practise "asking sensible questions" Hint, give intelligent information to assist people to HELP you. Should you really need it.

This post should be in the appropriate model forum - if you know what model you are talking about.

I just assumed maybe wrongly that he had only 1 Skoda and that was the 'Fabia vRS 06'.

The Fabia Mk1 section did seem like a good place for this Question to be asked,

or the People that have the car near them, that have worked on it to diagnose the cause of the grinding noise.

nope being deadly serous, you should be able to tell from my very bad forum skills that this is one of my only posts.

like someone else stated, i only have a skoda fabia vRS. im trying my very best to help out.

i can only state that the noise is coming from the front of the car, something that is constantly making some crap grinding noise when turning the steering.

If it comes on when turning right, left wheel bearing and vies versa (generally)

If it is this, the sound should get louder with speed.

Originally my bearing was making a grinding noise when i turned left and sounded like the the noise was coming from the left hand side

Turns out it was the right side wheel bearing becoming more prominent when shifting weight onto it by turning left

I presume the front discs and pads are OK?

Also that the brake disc isn't rubbing on the stone shield, and no trapped stones?

Have you jacked it up and turned each front wheel by hand to see if there's any noise?

its worse when turning right, which would show that its the left wheel bearing.. which has been changed :(

for some reason you cant spin my wheels by hand, they have huge drag :/

Well that is not normal. If the car is in neutral they should turn pretty easily with just slight drag. Maybe you have sticking caliper sliders or sticking/seized caliper pistons.

How low is it ? Drive shaft rubbing on chassis ? Maybe try smaller droplinks as when i had mine low it used to grind only when turning ( shorter drop links fixed it)
