Is it for sale?

Would anyone want to buy it?

No it isn't actually - drove it the other night and I still love the damned thing too much

I'd take a look at the mk1 scirroco

Good shout ^^^^.

Still think a twin cam Celica if he can find one.

Rare beast now.

Also, see Corral GT too. :sun:

Per Eklund on the Manx International has just flashed through my mind.

Virtually identical....even the wheels!...............except mine was in pale blue metallic.

Always remember the paint finish as being stunningly exquisite on that car. :sun:

Swapped it for Martin Brundle's ex Snetterton 24 hour twin cam from his Dads garage that he managed back in the 80's in Kings Lynn.

Wonder if it's still there?

Still got the HP doc with his signature witnessing mine on it

Bit of a shed, but well prepared and good fun was had sprinting it.

Wonder where VVG1S is now?

Answered my own question................in July 2003 it lost the Toyota franchise, which it had held for 30 years, to rival Marshall Motor Group.  :'(

Out of car retailing completely now apparently.

Triumph stag, TR6, Spitfire, VW Polo/ Golf/ Scirocco, Ford escort/ Capri, Vauxhall Viva, bmw 2002, 350 or 5 series (check out 4star classics). Plenty of old Saabs kicking about too

.........and the Morris Ital!  :D

I'm not really too clear in my mind what Daiking is actually looking for tbqh.

He wants a car that was registered in 1979, but doesn't really want it to look like a 1970's car?  :S

Where and what  does that actually leave us?  :notme:

Citroen CX :p

Quite a few cars that you would probably call 'classically styled' didn't make it to 1979, TR6, Stag. Which leaves you with the stuff designed to look modern in the 70s and lasted through to the 80s. You know how a rubber bumpered MG looks poor compared to chrome bumpered model? And I've mentioned the Rovers above. The P6 looks the business but is too old. The SD1 is the right period but doesn't float my boat.

That's where we're at. Maybe a bit of chrome but something that isn't a massive expanse of black rubber and plastic. Not a project but something that is in reasonable condition and should last a few years, ageing gracefully with me.

What an absolute BEAUT!

Same stunning colour as my Celica that.

Lot of gorgeousness for under 5 grand.

Probably going to have to pull you up on the Japs, owning the only one of anything in the country is not my idea of fun.

Besides I'm already raiding scrapyards to keep my wife's K11 micro on the road.

Also, it's an unregistered import, so unlikely to carry the elusive '79 registration number.

Dolomite passes, golf doesn't, too golfey. I think the beetle will sneak onto the list actually.

A Beetle is time, commitment and money and will always costs to keep on top of.its why so many are sold as projects, get too much for people who then have to flog as work for someone else. Great fun if you can accept the fact though

I had four 132's in a row:

Haven't seen any for a long time, and certainly none for sale - if the one above was an auto, I'd have bought it.

Loved 'em all.

Or what about one of the first Honda Prelude's - if you can find one!

Or a Beta:

Gaz

Opel Kadett.

Vauxhall Cavalier.

Opel Manta.

Alfasud.

Fiat 132 Twin cam.

Ford Granada 2.8 Ghia.

Or if you can find a good early one BMW635 CSi.

Alfa Romeo GTV6 - seriously gorgeous car!

Jag XJS

For the full money pit go for the V12.

Looks great though.

I saw a pretty mint looking Ford Cortina IV on the road not long ago. Surprise just how good it looked to me now.

Fiat 131 Supermiafiori Twincam. I hired a 1979 Twincam auto in 1981 and loved it.

Alfa Romeo Alfasud Sprint. I had a 1979 built Sprint. They were pretty before the Cloverleaf versions.

The tin worm will have reduced the numbers of both to single digits I would imagine!

Was going to mention Mk2 Granada but someone beat me to it.

The seventies was not the best era for rust proofing. As said before you will either get a rust bucket for peanuts, or a restored one for a fortune whatever you buy. There are not many real “finds” about at the moment.

How about a VW Camper. Plenty about and you can do it up all “flower power man”

I was going to say a Lancia Montecarlo, but these are two awesome options... sadly I fear the OP's requirement that it 'last a few years' will sadly undermine the reality of virtually anything of '70s Italian vintage, unless there is dry, non-humid storage available :)

My dad had a Miafiori Sport. T reg I would be 9 yrs old. He did have a Cortina on order but Ford were suffering lengthy strikes so it was cancelled. I don't remember much about the Fiat (dull RAF Blue colour) apart from rubbing my chin on the back of the velour front seat and making it red raw and sore. Still see an odd one rallied in dayglo orange.

I think I would opt for a MK1 Golf but good ones cost but would maintain value or a Landrover which would be a moneypit.

Someone mention a Corolla?
