  • Managed to get to a track, drive around without breaking anything, and drive back!   Car performed faultlessly and it was a real hoot. Track was wet so was sliding around everywhere but it was fun.

  • ^^^^ you've installed it wrong :P

  • Ibiza 1.8T internals into the Fabia??

Just wait till you start stripping the fabia then.

Most of that can just be dumped round back until I'm ready to weigh it in :P

Well the drivers side track rod is bent (not by much, I had to check it with a straight edge). I think I'll give up on the Ibiza rack and source another, or use the one from the Fabia.

Anyone know if the racks are different for the FR/vRS? Which of the Fabia/Ibiza/Polo family has the quickest rack?

I've got 4 sheds full and a garage and I need another shed :(

I think the VRS has a "quick steer rack"  i think the pinon is geared differently to a normal rack.

As a rough price, it was £280 ex vat for a Rack to be fitted to my VRS by a skoda recommended garage (my local said they dont do PAS racks anymore) so i think you would be lookng around the £100 for a recon rack.

its a subframe out jobby so i dont see it being a problem for you given the work you are undertaking (would be surprised if you havnt already planned to drop the subframe)

The vrs is meant to have a faster rack than a normal fabia. Might be worth trying to get one from a vrs.

Well since the subframe is on the garage floor :P My plan was to refurbish the sub frame from the Ibiza while it was out (new rod ends, bushes, ball joints, repaint) and then lift it whole sale in to the Fabia and hope the rack wasn't the issue in the Ibiza. But with the rod bent... not worth putting effort, the rack is probably buggered.

I think I'll ask the guy at SERE if the Cupra rack is any quicker than standard or go and badger my local Skoda dealer.

Probably popped a seal, just give it a quick sort out and replace some seals ;)

How can I check for that? No harm in taking it to bits  :)

Just go to Aldi buy a box of assorted seals and disassemble it and replace them all, enjoy yourself doing so :P

It doesn't sound fun...

It isn't when you're covered in Pas Fluid.

Meh.

Will see, if the Cupra rack is quicker I think I'll buy one of them.

Well if you do and you want rid of the rack I'll buy it off you.

I'll probably be passing you before that... I'll be visiting my mum at least once this winter.

Got a sub frame with your name on it too :P

In my experience, all UK models (except Cupra) use the same rack.

The Cupra rack I believe is specific to that model.

Hardly conclusive.

Bugger it, I'm going to use the Fabia's PAS system and if its slow enough to annoy me look at it later.

Enough to do without buggering about with this stuff.

Surprised Foxy hasn't weighed in yet as he's driven every different model of Fabia (saloon excluded) he should know if there are any differences :)

Has he had a 2.0 beast?

Springs and shocks from the Ibiza fitted to the rear as it seemed to be lower on the left than the right. I'd say the ride height on the back is about perfect with the Ibiza setup! Springs looked to be around 1" shorter.

Looks a bit odd with the front in the air. I don't like the dog dragging its arse look at all...

Also fitted the drop links from the Ibiza as the others were shot, so once I get some oil out it should be all ready for an MOT. Can't get the dam filter off though despite the fact I know I only did it up hand tight a few weeks ago... so going to order a tool :(

Another part of the Ibiza, the reverse light switch ended up on the Cordoba as the old one had rusted up and stuck on. Not sure how its rusted up?! Bit worrying.
