  • Managed to get to a track, drive around without breaking anything, and drive back!   Car performed faultlessly and it was a real hoot. Track was wet so was sliding around everywhere but it was fun.

  • ^^^^ you've installed it wrong :P

  • Ibiza 1.8T internals into the Fabia??

Good progress Dan , you get the box off to Awesome GTI?

Yes dropped it off yesterday while running errands in Manchester. Not sure on time scale or when I'll be able to collect. Hopefully some work will come up that way in a few weeks :) Also got a Seat Sport front and Forge rear brace from a Brisky member.

Good stuff then mate slowly piecing it all together

Slowly getting there:

Wishbones/ARB/Rear Beam/Stone guards all cleaned and painted blaaaaaaaaack.

SuperPro bushes all installed.

Wishbones, consoles, ball joints and hub all test fitted together.

Engine bay loom removed and engine bay cleaned up ready for the engine.

Front panel butchered and radiator fitted. Bracket made from a central heating radiator bracket :)

This weekend should see all the suspension/axels/subframe removed and the replacement stuff in place bar the dampers/springs, don't have funds for them yet seen as I spent it on an LSD :( Besides, my 'to fit' pile is big enough. I think blocks of wood will be playing the part of suspension for the time being :)

Once all that's on, the weekend after will see it pushed (hopefully... there is a bit of a lip on my garage door) in to the garage so I can install the loom and engine in the dry; dam mist up here means everything gets wet outside, even if its under a car port.

Good going mate looking forward to seeing it finished :)

A little vent about stupid, silly problems...

No1: Spent all last week spraying the dam wiper arm spindles with WD and wiggling/tugging/smacking them to try and get them off in a friendly fashion. No joy. Half way through the dam spindle with an angle grinder and off they pop! Should probably have just sacrificed the plastic instead and used a blow torch to heat the spindle/arms a bit. Oh and the Ibiza setup is different so can't replace it with that.

No2: Firstly, the original engine mount bolts, 1 long 2 shorter. The replacement ones I was sent are all the same (shorter) length, this simply won't work as the shorter bolt sits 1-2 threads in the head. Then, doing the bolts that go in to the block, first one was fine, second one didn't feel 'right'. Took it out and its about 4mm longer than it used to be and visibly thinned towards the top of the threaded section, glad I went on the feeling as I'd struggle if it snapped in the block. Oh well, at least I have a spare 'shorty', this one goes in fine and torques up as it should. I'd blame my torque wrench if it hadn't just done 2 bolts fine.

Oh well, I shouldn't expect this to go smoothly :)

1, should've borrowed a puller, they come off in 30 seconds tops with one. :D

Not true, I broke a puller trying to remove my drivers side wiper arm. Gave up after that

Ohh blimey, that must've been really well stuck on. The first Fabia had a failed wiper linkage that I had real difficulty pulling off

haha well i tried removing a Rear wiper & spindle and shattered the windscreen (on a written off Fabia), beat that! :D

How about being owner of written off Fabia in question and asking someone to remove the rear wiper motor...

I got you the wiper motor though didnt I? ;)

Yes, but in hindsight if I'd wanted it removed with a hammer I could have had the fun myself.

Ohh dear... Taylor should've used a special took for that that I use and BossFox has suggested.

Rain stops play today... well actually, 3 knackard track rods stop play.

Fabia rack: both rod ends won't budge and the rods are corroded pretty badly.

Ibiza rack: drivers side bent.

Going to leave the subframe/consoles off as it makes the job of replacing them so much easier.

Oh well, I get to watch the Formula 1 instead :)

Use plusgas or Heat :p

I did. they wouldn't budge, instead they started to round off as they were weakened by corrosion.

So cheap anyway...

So I rebuilt the front suspension yesterday, in the mist, everything covered in water despite being under the car port, and got the car in the garage.

For the first time in weeks we have blue sky and glorious sun instead of mist/fog today.

Do I now own a 1.8T Fabia if the engine is half in?

I've lost the bracket for the gearbox mount, so thoroughly peeved as it stopped me from getting the engine in to the point where I can move the car with the engine in place.

I'm really hoping I'm not going to get bent over by the dealer for a replacement.  :(

By the looks of it the bracket from the box to the mount is different. Looked at eBay for some and none from other Ibiza's seem to match the 02Js bolt holes.

You're not using the correct hammer then ;)

I think I have a complete octy vRS gearbox mount if you come unstuck.
