  • Managed to get to a track, drive around without breaking anything, and drive back!   Car performed faultlessly and it was a real hoot. Track was wet so was sliding around everywhere but it was fun.

  • ^^^^ you've installed it wrong :P

  • Ibiza 1.8T internals into the Fabia??

just wondering chaps, do you have a link to said guide?

Researching for Richard's Fabia? :)

For his own little project maybe. ;)

Another 1.8T Fabia  at the moment we have 2 in development stages and 2 in the got parts lying about but nothing happening section

lol just for some research.... :)

It will vary depending on the engine version, but the guide gives you a good idea.

I'll have to gather all the bits I've taken off and get a pic, there is quite a lot of it.

On another note, does anyone know if I can attach a standard silicone hose directly to the outlet on the turbo or is it too hot? Ideally I want to replace the standard hose with one that will allow me to go straight to bigger piping for the intercooler. So either a reducing 90deg silicone hose or a reducing straight joint to a 2.5" alloy 90deg pipe.

Yes you can Dan, Forge do special high heat hoses to come off the turbo. But all other company's use standard ones - I used a standard one running 300bhp with no trouble.

Ace.

I saw the forge hoses and figured if I could use silicone and replace it every year, its a whole lot cheaper than the forge item! Or I could buy a glass reinforced one for 1/2 the price of the forge item anyway...

Shopping list coming together nicely, hopefully I won't forget something that stops me over Christmas and I'll get it fired up :)

Well today I wanted to figure out everything I need to order next week, so I started to put the car back together and figure out the routes for the intercooler piping.

The plan was to follow the standard path behind the engine and underneath the alternator belt etc and then go through a single pass cooler back up the other side and into the BAM manifold. This way the hot side is kept away from the intake while following a nice easy path to the front of the car, but it would mean a bit more work moving plugs for the TB, MAP etc. However, fitting the BAM with the slam panel in revealed that the TB sat pretty much in the standard air intake above the radiator that I wanted to maintain/use later for the intake side of things. Also because the TB on the BAM is angled unlike the standard manifold it would make the pipe work difficult without cutting the slam panel or having pipes rubbing. There isn't a whole lot of space (in fact, the cooler pipe would take the only real space just in front of the gearbox) to put a cold air feed(s), so losing the feed from above the radiator is a bit of a blow.

So back to the drawing board, original manifold back on and now wishing I had a twin pass cooler. However, space to bring the pipe work up to the TB is at a premium over that side, so it looks like I'm going to need to be fairly creative with some angled joints. Fortunately I'm not trying to weld anything... just tring to order everything I need and get it right the first time. The route for the hot side now passes right next to the intake, so its going to make the heat-shield harder to build... but that's a future problem. However I'm not convinced on some of the pipe work, I'd like to get rid of a couple of 90deg bends if I can. Now I'm staring at the shopping list, various drawings of the pipe work and all the connections, I'm very tempted to go back outside and see what can be done to make the path smoother, get some cold air to the intake and fit the BAM.

Have you got a picture of where the BAM intake goes?

Not only does it block the intake but anything less then an immediate 45deg and it will fowl on the radiator pipe connector too.

Well I found a better route for the hot side after I went to have a look how easy it was to move the PAS...

I've moved some of the loom out of the way and cut the tray, so I'll need to wrap the loom up in something to protect it from rubbing and the heat, but its a much safer route than going down in front of the gearbox and takes out a 90deg bend at the same time. Standard manifold will stay and I'll build a heat shield and bring a cold air feed up to compliment the standard one.

Yes the light does fit :p

Apart from the obvious positioning issues with using the BAM intake, are there any other differences?

In the pics it looks like the bjx one tapers

The only reason I bought it was for the TB positioning doh.

Can't see the taper having any measurable effect on performance as the flow requirements reduce the further across you go, perhaps it was just a packaging thing?

A bit of a 'wtf' moment when I held in my hand 3 plugs I had labeled 'engine', one was a unique shape which I remembered went to the radiator, the other two I could not figure out. Turns out, they connect to each other. Very odd setup as they are in the same bit of loom. Why have the connectors at all?

Well I found out a bit more about this today...

They don't connect to each other, they are the fan connectors.

That could have gone horribly wrong :P

I know that the alfa engines are very much effected by such a change in intake so they make them equal length. But I guess that is only for naturally aspirated engines rather than boosted ones.

Seems like you are making good progress keep it up! :)

That's an Alfa though, a slight breeze, change in humidity, look at it the wrong way and it will drop HP or just break down.

Lol it was an example :D

Alfas, the on,y car more reliable than Jaguars

Bam or Auq Mani will give you a headache tbh stick with the Bjx and all will be good. I ran my pipe to the cooler thru the hole left from removing the PAS which made life a little easier

After looking at your thread for inspiration I went to see if the PAS could go anywhere else, that's when I found if I moved the wires a bit there was plenty of space to stick a 45deg alloy bend through the (enbigened) hole under the light.

Getting there now. A whole host of tubes, pipes and adapters ordered as well as plugs, filters and fluids. Hopefully enough to get it running next week :)

Fingers crossed it runs OK, I've changed so much since it last ran (timing belt and SMF being the ones I'm most concerned about) and had no opportunity to test it properly (does it run!) along the way.

My schedule is starting to slip... pipes for the inter cooler, intake, vac system etc. ordered on Sunday night, are still in transit. They've crossed the pennies (despite starting on the correct side) and are due back over next week, however as its Yodel I'm not holding my breath that they will get to me before Christmas Eve. I forgot to order the MAP pipe as well, so hopefully that can be delivered in time but realistically, it won't be here next week :(

Looking on the bright side, you've plenty of time before Combe in April. :)
