I think I have a complete octy vRS gearbox mount if you come unstuck.

Thanks but I think they are different too :( Gearbox and chassis side completely different by the looks of it.

This is the bracket I'm after:

Come to think of it maybe it was still attached to the box like that when I dropped it off for the LSD install...

  • Managed to get to a track, drive around without breaking anything, and drive back!   Car performed faultlessly and it was a real hoot. Track was wet so was sliding around everywhere but it was fun.

  • ^^^^ you've installed it wrong :P

  • Ibiza 1.8T internals into the Fabia??

If not the mount bracket off the 5 speed diesel will fit straight on. The 02j from a octy has a slightly different 'box casing and the bracket would need to be widened to fit

Yep spot on. Grabbed one off ebay last night from a 1.4 diesel Seat I think. Guy had bolted it back to the mount the wrong way around which made me think it was different at first as so few included the bracket with the mount. Oh well, should be here by Wednesday/Thursday. Bet once I move the car and have a good look I find it :(

sitting under the back of the car or ontop of a wheel under the wheel arch.... :D

Can't wait to see it in, even more excited about seeing it running! :p

The engine is now in!

Lets pretend I found a very efficient seller who dispatched the mount to me on a Sunday evening and it arrived today. Lets pretend the bracket wasn't hiding in a bucket of micro fiber cloths that I had moved previously but not noticed the additional weight :(

Oh dear Dan ... Need a tool tray and parts labeller ;)

To be fair up to this point I've been very organised and kept things together, my guess is that on the morning of taking the gearbox to Awesome I've thought 'hmm better take that off, or I'll never see it again' and so it didn't go in the box with the mounts.

All the looms etc are labeled up, which is good or it would be a long ass job playing pin the plug on the socket.

Nothing worse than playing test the wire with a vintage cars loom let alone a newer one.

Hmm I'd be extremely ****ed off at that point!

Acquired some more steel wheels today, plan will be to use them as winters with either winter tyres, all season tyres or some softer summers (like RS3s). Not sure yet. But it makes it easier to put this car on the road before April should I want/need to :p (Don't fancy RS-Rs in March!).

Most of the engine bay loom is in and connected up. Surprisingly easy. A bit of a 'wtf' moment when I held in my hand 3 plugs I had labeled 'engine', one was a unique shape which I remembered went to the radiator, the other two I could not figure out. Turns out, they connect to each other. Very odd setup as they are in the same bit of loom. Why have the connectors at all?

Tomorrows plan, after getting a heater for the garage (came in as my toe went numb... wireless thermometer thingy says 3c), is to get the clocks and ignition barrel out and see what I need to do to sort the clocks.

i was slightly upset to say the least, kettle on and gearbox back out lol. What you doing with the barrel? I took the whole steering column it was much easier :)

Just switched the ignition lock switch or whatever Haynes calls it... was a bit of a pig getting a 1.5mm bit in to release it but after a bit of twiddling got 'em swapped. Shouldn't need to swap the ignition switch so I have a spare of those if needed. Tested it as far as it activates the switch and the steering lock works. Definitely not easier to swap the whole column when you have Ibiza bits :)

Clocks are almost a straight swap (just need to swap the housings over), except that I now have LEDs shining right in my face, so I've cut out the semi transparent sections from the Fabia clock backing and will glue them in to place behind the facia. Won't look as bodged as it sounds :P Will get that done tomorrow just need to get some suitable glue. I've now decided the FR on the clocks stands for Fabia Racing :)

Looking hopeful that I will get to fire it up fairly soon :)

Look forward to that Dan, good update!

Happy days :)

Lack of pics going on here sir :(

Agreed. We want pics!

Agreed.

I need to find my old Sony camera to use as a garage cam, as my phone really is bad in the poor light in the garage.

Plan to video first fire up as well. Could be entertaining if it spits petrol everywhere or doesn't fire :P

Ok run in to a little problem trying to put everything back together.

I'm staring at a few tubes and a pump of some sort.

One line came from the throttle body (vac).

Another I think came from a hard pipe which ends up connected to the intake side of the turbo.

The third line, which is the one with the pump (PN: 600133519a) used to connect to a plastic line that went to the back of the car, but that isn't present on the Fabia.

And secondly, the vac pipe to the master cylinder has 2 one way valves on, as I managed to damage one, are two necessary? Is it just a failsafe?

The one I broke looks like this, the smaller pipe is straight through to a one way valve on the TIP:

Just trying to tidy up some of the pipes, remove hard lines etc.

Hopefully someone can help piece these bits together :)

Want another one?

If its just there as a fail safe I'll butcher the spare pipe I have. But thanks :)

Ok so this one is EVAP. Answered my own question so I'm going to eat the cookie! Om nom nom.

Great work. Have you seen that you can do some engine simplification mods too?

Bowders has done a guide in the Octavia section :)

Well not a very exciting weekend. Have been tinkering with the engine and removing some guff:

SAI

N249

N112 - All of the above are so simple on the Ibiza engine. I was following a Octavia guide, I think its much more involved on the Octy  :p

EVAP is a continuation of that, but to be fair I didn't know it had EVAP until I came to put this pipe work back on :)

Also going to tidy up the vac to the brake cylinder and run it from the other side of the manifold, more suited to the cleaner pipe work + BAM manifold. The old pipe ran along the firewall and came round to the left (viewed from the front) pf the manifold, just going to come straight up and on to the right of the manifold where there is a perfectly sized connector.
