Stained windscreen

Featured Replies

Eversince I've had my windscreen replaced with a genuine VAG one it's become very stained on the outside and nothing will remove it. I've tried:

Vinegar

Neat screenwash

Methilated spirit

Paint thinners

Glass polish

Neat traffic film remover (very strong )

Tar and Glue remover

Graffiti remover

Petrol

I replaced the wiper blades first. No good still the same.

When its damp and you put the wipers on it just doesn't clear. You can see dried on streaks all down the windscreen. It's ridiculous trying to drive this thing [emoji35]

Anyone got any ideas what to do next ?

Acid?

Hammer ?

Lol

I'm having to use my Rapid as the Citigo is unbearable.

How long ago was it replaced?

I was recommended a product called Barkeepers Friend. It's available from Lakeland Ltd, Sainsburys and I'm sure many supermarkets.

T Cut glass restorer.

Try Toothpaste it has worked for me in the past?

Seems to be a duplicate of the thread in the Car Care and Styling section?

Maybe the mods can merge...

It was replaced just over a month ago. I also put it in the other section to get a response from the car detailers on here too.

Have you spoken to the garage that fitted it? What are the chances of it being declared faulty and replaced again? If you don't ask ...

I was thinking of calling Autoglass about it but think they might do nothing about it.

In reality the above comments are correct. Take it back and tell them fix it or replace it. Don't take any waffle for an answer.

I have used this on Glass, white powder on a damp cloth really cleans Glass. I'll recommend this stuff

I've strangely noticed this too.. as you know mine was replaced by Autoglass a while back now, I've found during the rain when the wipers are on the screen just tends to cloud up a bit, found that a quick squirt with washer fluid solves it though

I'll think I will try that barkeepers friend and see what happens.

Thanks guys [emoji106]

Mine mists up quick now too. It never done it before [emoji19]

Had mine replaced by Autoglass, not noticed anything unusual.

I clean mine with Nilglass (Lakeland sell it)

I would have thought if you're not happy have a word with Autoglass, if they don't/won't solve the problem then your insurance (if used to replace) they did pay for it. If you are not satisfied for instance with body repairs via insurance surely they have a say.

Just found this and read up on it [emoji106]

Looks great stuff. I'll give it a go :)

Thanks Mr Goldfinger and ExTiguan man [emoji106]

I've got a similar problem with my astra, almost impossible to see through in light rain at dusk. Will try above suggestion. Cheers

Just an update to this.

The windscreen hasn't got any better since trying everything on it. Have now noticed it's going milky at the bottom of the screen under the wipers. I've phoned Autoglass about this tonight stating its only 2 and a half months old and is a terrible windscreen. They are coming out on Monday to replace it again [emoji19]

Hopefully the next one will be better [emoji6]

Had this many years ago on a Toyota- screen was replaced under warranty.

Are the screens laminated? I thought that toughened glass had replaced laminated some years ago. I agree that separating lamination would cause that effect though.

Fred

My screen was turning milky colour at the very bottom, it was only about 2mm along the bottom edge. I did consider mentioning it at the first service but forgot about it, strangely it disappeared. Anyway after a stone hit the screen it eventually cracked and had to be replaced. I shall keep an eye out for any problems, that was done by Autoglass, good job too.

On delamination of screens I had this on a Vauxhall screen, common problem it seemed on my model (Omega) that was dreadful along the bottom and corners of the screen. It certainly looked like delamination on the Citigo screen but minor along the edge as said.

Just had the 2nd windscreen fitted under warranty this time. I hope it's the last one. He broke my ticket holder on the A pillar but I'm not bothered as they're a pain when cleaning the glass [emoji16]
