Dipping near side mirror when parking?

Featured Replies

Can anyone help me please? Apparently the nearside mirror is meant to dip when put in reverse?

- I have activated this on Amundsen

- the minors are power mirrors

- the switch is selected to passenger side mirror

- reverse gear selected

But still the mirror doesn't dip, what am I missing?

Many thanks

Do you have electric seats? If yes - they contain a memory bank which saves up to 3 preferences for 3 different drivers.

The electric mirrors also need to be able to (ab)use the presence of this piece of technique to be able to dip, essentially they save their current position, dip down and go back.

I have made sure my dealer is aware of this to see if he can steer the production process, as the vRS edition comes with sport seats as standard and not electric seats, which means I wouldn't be able to get my mirrors to dip as well.

You don't need electric seats, and a dealer will not be able to influence the factory.

Try selecting reverse with the mirror switch pointing at the passenger mirror. Now adjust the mirror downwards so you can see your rear wheel. Now turn the mirror switch back to 0 and come out of reverse. If the mirror doesn't move back up to somewhere near the original position then it isn't working on your car.

Perfect, many thanks. It was the moving the switch back to centre I was missing thinking coming out of reverse would automatically put the mirror back level. thanks again for the help.

It will, but you need to hit about 10 km/h going forwards before the mirror moves back up.

The mirror will automatically come back level either when you switch the ignition off or start moving forward.

Does it work on your car? I have similar model except 1.4TSi & it doesn't work on mine. Or do you have to get it enabled?

You have to enable it if you don't have the menu item for it in the infotainment under the car settings.

I just checked mine and there is no option for this under Mirrors. Just has retract when parked & work simultaneously.

I don't have it on my VRS

Never understood why should power mirrors be a prerequisite for dipping mirror.

It isn't. I have enabled it on many vRS's without folding mirrors.

Mines an Elegance with folding mirrors and this wasn't enabled from the factory either.

  • 1 year later...

anyone know how to increase the 'dip' ? I love it buy it only goes down about half as far as I want it to really see the curb near my back wheel....

Buy a car with memory seats :)

Ordered on my new one. It should save me doing my wheels against the kerb,
