A few small issues with my Octavia

Featured Replies

Hi All.

I have had my 2003 TDi 110 Octavia for nearly 5 years and it has been the most reliable car I have ever owned. that being said I am having a few small issues which I hope you can help with.

The first one is my reverse lights not working. It started with just flickering then it went out altogether. I have changed the reverse switch and this has had no affect, still no lights. I then looked in here and saw someone with the exact same issue who put a dot of solder onto the end of the switch making this come to life. Something that I noticed taking the old switch out is that it didn't have a washer between the nut of the switch and the mounting hole but this switch came with the washer which I fitted. Was this the correct thing to do? Is there a way to test the wiring?

Next is my temperature gauge. It doesn't work and hasn't for a while but every now and then it springs to life. Where is the gauge and how do I test to see if it is working?

About a week ago my interior light stopped working when I open the door, its fine if I turn any of the lights on manually but just not on the door. Where do I start with this one?

And last my doors lock fine using the remote on the key but most of the time refuse to unlock with the remote. What is the most likely cause?

I have gone through all the fuses and all are fine but other than this I am not sure where to start with these. The last 3 I can live with but I need to get the reverse lights working sooner rather than later.

Look forward to your advise!

J.

Welcome to Briskoda - I am sure that we will soon get your car sorted out.  Here are a few hints to get you going...

Reversing lights - have you changed the bulb?  I would start my checking to see if you have +12v on the side where the light doesn't work.  If one light works, then the switch is ok.

Temp gauge - probably the CTS has failed, replace with a proper VAG part (not a cheapo one from ebay)

Interior light - probably a failed microswitch in the lock assembly.  Have a search on here, sure there is a guide for how to get the lock out and replace.

unlock issue - not sure.

Welcome

Interior light and locking is likely to be the convenience module - do a search on that, plenty of info

To test the reversing light wiring, can't you just connect the 2 wires to the switch together? if the light come on, the wiring is ok

Reversing light - possibly a broken wire at the switch plug

Temp gauge - faulty sensor

Interior light - faulty micro switch on the latch

Unlock - possibly a wiring fault check the drivers door wiring for any faults

Thanks all.

I will take a look this weekend armed with my Haynes manual and will update later!

Any more ideas are welcome though.
