Mp3 Recording / Mp3 Jukebox

Featured Replies

Can anyone recomend free cd-MP3 recording software

and a decent mp3 jukebox type thing for the computer?

Jono

Roxio is what I use, very easy.

For ripping/encoding, CDex free from http://www.cdex.n3.net/ .

Not sure what you mean by a jukebox. Do you mean a program that'll play files from a playlist? If so, Winamp from http://www.winamp.com/ is the granddaddy of them all and also free. I prefer Winamp 2 to Winamp 3 as it seems faster.

Have a read through this

Q.

audiocatalyst. best find a legally cracked version so you can rip MP3s at whatever kbps you want (standard is 128, but I prefer 192.) BTW - I think "legally cracked" is one of those oxymorons, or am I just being moronic? :D

You mean like "honest salesman"??

Do you have trouble with all the tracks being placed in alphabetical order rather than track order? It annoys me ever so slightly...

For anyone thinking about getting the otherwise excellent Easy CD Creator, mp3s are burnt onto a disc using a format called m3u. They reckon it's widely used and accepted etc etc Unfortunately, if the equipment you intend to play the mp3s on doesn't recognise this format it will play back in alphabetical order. I found this out after much searching through the Roxio forums and having enough spoilt discs to make it big in the coaster business.

An m3u is a Winamp playlist. It doesn't contain the music, just a list of files and the order in which they're played.

If your player doesn't recognise playlists, the easiest solution is to prefix each file name with a number, not forgetting the leading zero if you have ten or more files. CDex will do this automatically.

See screenshot for how to set this up in the program options.

i use cdex too.

Welliesorter,

I found this out after completing a six album mp3 project. Just a little bit of a pain in the **** renaming all the tracks.:(

Yep, annoys me too. My Kenwood HU doesn't recognize the playlist format.

For now I use the trick that was also suggested by Welliesorter, but it is a pain - whether it's done automatically (by Musicmatch in this case) or not.

Oh well, just nitpicking, I guess...

When I rip albums - I either leave them in track 1, track 2, track 3 form, or rename them 01 - title, 02 - title, 03 - title. I prefer to leave them in track 1, etc form as that's what they're ripped as and it keeps them in the right order. If I want to know what each track is, I can refer to my stash of CD cover jpegs... :D
