Featured Replies

Had my Octi in for something else last week and asked workshop manager about retro fit of smart gate and he said its several things that need to be changed, it's not just the head unit, making reference to the instrument panel and a few other things I forget now

I got my hands on our car a couple of days ago, and I'm just getting started exploring all the connectivity. Just started to check out SmartGate today and noticed Skoda has introduced quite a few more

Odd, as I retrofitted SmartGate to mine yesterday and it is 5 wires to replace to the CAN Gateway.

Would love to read a little review of the smartgate when you have tried for some days.

Nice. Yeah honestly I was just waiting for you to go first with it and was relaying what he'd said is all. So, how is it working for you? What you been able to get it to do?

MY16 price list is published in Finland.

There is 6.5" Bolero and Amundsen, both has Smartlink (as standard or as option).

Smartlink and wireless Media Command control is option in the Columbus.

Smartgate is as standard in most versions.

i also had smartgate retrofitted yesterday, works great, and nice apps, the greatest thing is that that my iphone connects to the car´s wifi, but still have internet access through the 4G Network, so i´m able to monitor the cars data, while receiving emails and listening to spotify, i thought that the internet access would stop since the car was on wifi, but that is not the case, it´s so sweet

Wow that's impressive, not only does Poland get the Smartlink before us (UK), but totally waterproof lap tops as well  ;).

On a sensible note, am I right in thinking that Smart link/Mirror link will let the head unit display show what ever is on the screen of your Android phone, so lets say Google maps if using the sat-nav function.

smartlink is the skoda unbrella term for "mirrorlink, carplay and android auto"

Hi guys,

From what I read on this topic, although many things are clear for me, still I cannot solve my situation:

My Octavia Mk3 was produced in March, so it has MIB Bolero, gen. 1 (5.8" screen).

Now, the questions are:

1. Can I install the new Bolero (gen. 2: 6.5" screen)? Can you help me with a rough estimate for the price? (unit + installation)

2. Can I add Smartlink? Rough estimate for the price? (unit + installation)

    - It is mandatory to have the new gen. 2 Bolero for that?

Thanks!

Victor

 No and No

We don't know and we don't know!

You are foobared if you have a recent Android phone, the Skoda Service app is not compatible with Lollipop, connecting to Smartgate disables mobile data and despite updating the firmware on the Smartgate to the latest version if I connect using WiFi Direct as recommended by Skoda, my Android phone can't see the SmartGate.

Works fine with Apple iPhones though.

I'd wager the MIB1 hardware likely is not man enough or doesnt have the inbuilt hardware capability to support Smartlink functionality.

The MY16 Octavias from week 22 will almost certainly come with the MIB2 units as Smartlink as an option will only work with those units.

Loss of the CD player on Bolero and Amundsen in some respects a backwards step though....assuming the brains still sit in the glovebox just without the CD slot.

Knowing what you know now, do you think you could argue for a refund for something which basically does not work?

Nope as you can use the drive app and I updated it using the Skoda Service app on an Apple device. It was just a heads up for others.
