Octavia III wheel jack and brace

Featured Replies

Hi,

Can anyone advise if there are any previous models wheel brace and jack that are suitable for the MKIII Octavia. Thanks

I think that you'll find that virtually any standard Volkswagen or other manufacturer's jack would work with the Octavia III model. I posted a thread last week asking whether a spare wheel from an Audi A4 would fit my car.

Well, it fitted like a glove as did the jack that came with it and the wheel brace worked fine too, I fitted the spare wheel to my car for the first time today and with the Octavia you are putting the slotted part of the jack over

the metal ridge under the car, as long as your jack has that kind of slot on it, it should fit any current Octavia. The wheel brace head size might be more variable as not all manufacturers will use the same size for the wheel nuts

but if you can get a VW made one for an Audi A4, Passat or maybe even a Golf it should be fine. I'm sure plenty of other models will be using compatible jacks and braces too. You might be able to pick up something suitable

at a scrap yard, these tend to be something that is not used very much by most people, I've seen them at car boot sales too.

I might be wrong and I haven't had time to look in my car but...I thought the Octy 3 lifted directly on the seam and the jack doesn't have a slot in it. If you use an older jack it will lift either side of the seam which is incorrect...

I'm sure someone with the exact answer will be along soon though...

The mkII jack isn't suitable for the mkIII.

That's what I meant about the jack fitting over the seam, you can buy an original Skoda kit for £57 on eBay with jack, brace and foam liner for holding a spare wheel, of course pretty sure any Skoda dealer could sell you that item too. If you want the whole kit it will cost £150 for a spare wheel with all of the tools, exactly double what it would cost if you were able to get it as an option when ordering new!

I did ask Henry's if there was any deal on that price, given lack of discount when I bought my car and they said they would look into it but strangely enough they never called back! Hence reason for buying the Audi wheel, I don't like paying more than I have to for anything.

Yes but the jack isn't supposed to fit around the seam on the Mk3. The Mk 3 jack is flat and lifts the seam itself. If you use a Mk 2 jack you will damage the floor panel either side of the seam when you lift....

Presumably all you need do then is fix a flat piece of steel across the business end of the Mk. 2 jack to produce a flat lifting surface?

or a flat hockey puck (i.e. with no groove cut into it)...

Can't say that I noticed any problem yesterday using that jack on my car,if correct jack is different I will get something more appropriate and swap it over! But front end of car is a lot heavier with engine etc, so yes, that would be an issue if you were to use the wrong jack at that end, I just swapped over one of the rear wheels. Will need to have a look around to get correct jack now, don't need full toolkit just the jack itself.
