Kerbed my vRS on first day of ownership! What a great car!

Featured Replies

vRS TDI DSG Estate in race blue, black pack, full size spare and rear tinted windows arrived today! Great drive coming from an Audi Q3 interestingly the vRS diesel is much quieter than the Audi Q3. Anyway after reading the missus the riot act about kerbing the Gemini's... I only went and kerbed it trying to tuck it in at the side of the road away from traffic! Gutted!

Anyway first impressions after spending time driving around needlessly ;) are very impressive didn't think it would have so much power on tap although taking it easy for the first 1,000 miles ;) Seats are excellent very supportive and road holding through corners superb it just wants to shift the torque on tap is awesome. Sport suspension not too bad only noticeable through potholes and my old '04 A4 Avant Sport was much worse. Very impressed with the touchscreen system with all the car information and drive settings much more than was in the Q3. vRS button is awesome ha! Not driven in sport yet just easing her in on normal. Bolero sound is good / acceptable although not as good as SLine Audi system. However don't think I'll miss out on the Canton upgrade to my tastes its good enough. Forgot about the auto dim rear view mirror good to have it again! Overall the quality of the drive, road holding, engine torque and interior finish makes it feel like a much more premium marque who would have guessed Skoda could deliver on such a great car. Gutted about my kerbed rim however!

Assuming Mrs big chris hasn't noticed or been told about the rim

you should let her drive it once and blame her for the wheel damage afterwards.

This is an issue I mentioned elsewhere when I got mine. The design of the rim doesn't allow the tyre side wall to absorb even minor slow contact with kerbs etc.

To counteract this, I had Alloygators fitted. Again see elsewhere on this forum. There are many tyres around that have an extra bead of rubber for protection. But they chose not to supply this type. Even with the Allogattors, I dread approaching kerbs, riding up them, as we all do occasionally.

I did this too with my Rapid the first week I had it. [emoji17]

It's an unpleasant sound when the rim contacts a kerb.

@Grr666 yes the thought had occurred to me but I decided to come clean to the missus which I think made her day... Anyway she'll no doubt put a scratch down the side of it as she does with every car we've had ha!

@decul yes agreed the Q3 had 235/50 18s although tyre profile suited to an SUV but you could bump along a kerb all day long with no damage to the rim. Got to be careful with kerbs and this vRS!

We have had ours 2 weeks. My wife reversed into another car using the auto park feature at the weekend. I said nothing, took the dog for like a 90 munute walk, and said nothing. **** happens, its metal and plastic, get out there and drive the nuts off it!

Blame the car, it was parking :D

Mans best friend never lets you down. :). Many an argument saved by WALKIES.

reversed into another car using the auto park feature at the weekend.

We'll be seeing more and more of this as these auto features glitch. I'd never spec them myself.

Money better spent on driving tuition if it's needed as it works on all cars.

I'm interested to see what happens when the lane hold function fitted to more and more cars

sends someone into the barrier on the motorway when the lanes all move over one but they

haven't burnt the lines off of the road yet.

Blame the car,

Fine until one of these glitches costs a life then what? Sue the car for damages?

Lock the car up for causing death by dangerous driving?

It's only a matter of time until it happens. I think these driver 'aids' are very dangerous.

I don't even like auto boxes because they make cars into point and shoot.

If the skills aren't there to get around without all this help then frankly I question whether

or not the 'driver' (or is that attendant these days) should even have a licence?

I really don't see this as Skoda's issue. Its probably at the bottom of most peoples tyre attributes list. I've had tyres with them in the past and although better than nothing I really don't think they do that much...

Alloy gaitors look naff and risk damaging your alloys when dirt gets behind them and frets into the wheel finish.

The only real answer to kerbing is not to do it. We all make mistakes though its really just a lack of concentration or a misjudged manoeuvre and its not really any different to scuffing a bumper

You could always fit some kerb feelers? Probably wouldn't suit the Vrs like it would a Slammed classic yank tank though ;-)

Did same with mine, and because they are diamond cut finish it was too deep to do a good repair for the cost quoted, so i bought a new wheel, just shy of 300 quid, but it was nearly 150 for a repair, and as it was getting near tyre change time, i have now got a proper spare wheel, thats only sits about half an inch proud of the well, and with the feet and sides trimmed off the jack holder, it fits perfectly inside the wheel, just something to consider when weighing up cost of repair to replacement, iv put pzero's on the front now for a bit more protection, bonus being the car rides a lot quieter and grips better

Corrina, This is what I have been getting at, that some on here don't seem to grasp. There are some tyres that DO give better protection than others, for the odd time an error of judgement is made in every day manovering.

Hey, it'd be dull if we were all the same wouldn't it. I was sharing my pain with a brother who scuffed a wheel. Thanks for the salt in the wound. Shalom

I feel your pain. I did similar about 2 weeks after getting mine. Admit to having done it a couple of times since too :dull: . Have resigned myself to living with curbed alloys and promised myself when I have money they will become my 'winter wheels' and I shall buy some nice 19' rims and tyres (with some inbuilt protection haha) for swanning about on in summer.  :D

On the first drive, i was met by a car coming the wrong way round a roundabout! I severed and the driver went into the side of a car behind me. I then had to stop and go into paramedic mode.
