Electricity turnoff issue

Hi guys, any advice on how to turn electricity off in the cigarette lighter socket in my 2014 Octy? I've set up a dashboard camera, and it stays switched on after I switch the ignition off and remove the key. The same goes for the power adapter.

You'll probably need to find a fuse under the dash/glovebox that's switched with the ignition and hang a piggy-back adapter on it.

 

Edit - both 12V sockets are on the same fuse under the dash hence they both work the same way.

Then playing in the fusebox and hardwiring with a piggyback it in is the answer as suggested. Neater that way anyway.

Is your car RHD or LHD?  If RHD you'll need to remove the glovebox which is a little tricky until you master it.  There's a recent thread  on doing it.

I have an illuminated USB adapter in the console 12v one and it's lit on a morning when I go to the car...

You need to pull down the glovebox (it's explained in the manual) to reveal the fuse box, in the middle of the fuse box you will see a yellow 20 amp blade fuse (location f40) 

You will notice it sits a slight bit lower than the green 30 amp fuse to its left.
Remove the yellow 20 amp fuse,now move it up slightly until it is parallel with the green fuse next to it, push the fuse back in.

Your 12 volt accessories socket is now permanently live

Best of all its easily reversed if you change your mind

Interesting.  I'll try pulling mine out later and see.  I don't suppose you have a picture of the Leon fuse box, by any chance?

This is a Golf fuse box. It's not the red circled fuse but the yellow one beneath. Look at its position; you can move it up to the same position as the green 30 amp beside it. This is not my car and I haven't tried it, just what I've read on the Seat forum. YMMV!

It's a shame the 12v sockets share a fuse. Would be nice to have one switched and the other permanent.

I can confirm that on the Golf the yellow position fuse is designed to be put in either of the 2 positions so you can choose whether the cigy socket is live all the time or switched.  Should be exactly the same in the Octy, why the different marcs choose different starting positions must be simply brand choice.

The golf come with the fuse in the switched like position, but if you'd have read the post i'd quoted you wouldn't have misunderstood.

+1. A dash cam uses negligible load compared to what the battery can supply.

Fridge/cooler though it would be nice if the boot one was switched with the ignition.

I'm thinking of doing this with mine currently. As it stands I've got everything wired in to the switched rear wiper. How many cameras do you have and what's the longest you've left the car without using it as I'd like to know if it's worth making the change?
