What is that?

Featured Replies

Sorry to say, the bad news, or facts are, if engine revs increase while road speed is constant - and you are in the same gear, then some thing is allowing slippage - the most obvious thing that is causing that problem, if the car can be driven sedately without slippage in lower gears, IS THE CLUTCH!

It would be a miracle if a loose boost pipe was the root cause of this problem - or, you are giving us an inaccurate description of what is happening.

At 120,000 miles, it has had a good life - or if car has been remapped, it might be newer than that - but still sounds like its life is almost over!

How far are you from Mansfield? Shark Performance would be able to tell you immediately if it's been messed with and supply or just fit a clutch. They should be able to sort out finance as well, I think.

Having looked at the paperwork that came with the car this clutch is only 50,000 miles or so old. And the reason that I don't want to believe it's the clutch is the fact that it was an all of a sudden change. Surely if my clutch was "dead" I would have experienced something before and not have a massive difference out of nowhere.

I'm only about 45 mins away so I'll beat them in mind. Thanks

Like what? Clutch slippage IS the first sign, it starts in the higher gears at peak torque, one day it's fine, the next it's slipping.

Unless you aren't describing the symptoms properly there is nothing else that can cause this, I suggest you run it along to Shark and ask them to confirm the diagnosis.

Me and a mate have just spent the last hour now looking at my boost pipe and it seems that the pipe itself feels very lose. Takes minimal effort to move it slightly.

However once we had pushed it back into place and took it out the problem didn't occur in 3rd like before but then did in 4th. Pulled over and the pipe was loose again.

So is there a clip I could get to see if it will hold it shut or should I get a new pipe as I really wanna check all options before admitting it's the clutch. [emoji6]

You have two separate issues. Fixing the boost pipe will only make the clutch slip worse.

You can fix the boost pipe coming apart for pence.

You will need a new clutch as it's slipping and will only get worse once the car is boosting properly.

Budget around £500 for clutch and flywheel replacement from an independent garage.

Well I'm off to shark performance on Saturday so I guess I'll see what they can price me up.

What is the name of the "right angled" pipe. Is it a boost pipe or turbo pipe? Just looking to get a new one as it seems the clips on it aren't up to holding it in place no more?
