The Seat Leon Cupra is reported to also be available shortly with 290ps, maybe just not in the UK.

  • You'd have to be a bit daft to think there won't be. Ford has (unlike other car makers) realised that loads of people remap and found a way to influence what people do to their cars. At least by off

  • This is my one, love the little beast.

  • Makes you wonder why so few makers do have an approved remap available. You'd think it would be better for VAG to be involved in a safe remap for it's products that just leave the door open to a mult

It's already available in 290 form, the 280 version is no longer available.

That was a pre-face lifted model, perhaps the face lifted model would have done a better job!

Still wouldn't have killed him before he thumped his colleague :(

I've been looking at the M4.

Haven't managed to wangle it into a conversation with the missus yet :D

Can't see that video. Might be to do with the hotels wifi not allowing 'adult content'. Currently sat by the pool in 40'C heat in Turkey.

Title suggest rear wheel action in the wet. Sounds fun :)

This is a different Video, and not a Track comparison.

The thing is even on the wrong tyres in torrential rain they can get around corners on their own side of the road just as well as a Golf R will at UK NSL's.

They are just cars after all and the accelerator pedal can be adjusted by the driver.

(and some Electronics that the Manufacturer have set as Default.)

Please excuse me, totally OT

and any plonker can make a mistake not only BMW drivers.

What a disappointing vid and misleading title. Where on earth is the "versus". Just shows some dude driving around on a trackday. He eventually catches up to a M4 who is just pootling round not even trying and pulls over to let him pass. Pfffttt.

Yeah, just watched it. It was a bit like Golf R v Mondeo 2lt, when we just happen to pass each other on the A1.

No commitment from the M4 driver, think he was just enjoying the scenery :)

What's funny is some blinkered people might interpret this vid as the Golf R being a match for (or even quicker than) the M4 lol :-)

Yep, no contest. Just reckon the M4 could be a handful in the wet though.

It's been a while since my last RWD car with a bit of power. My good old Nissan 200SX :)

Tom,

Whoever in their right mind could think that in the DRY. lol

My mate with the M135i is looking to ditch it as he has a nice new house in an area with snow, well more remote, but with good driving roads, & colder & more inland..................mpg on his car is hurting like mad & even though he has driven his car on the last two winters on winter tyres he is not looking forward to driving in the conditions I have driven my old Fabia & my Golf in, which is more common now due to when he lives.

So a nice new 4wd car with good mpg & room for snowboard & that's fun to drive & cheaper to insure & tax than the M135I................

Let me see....................Octavia scout?........Golf R estate, Golf Alltrack with the 184Ps GTD engine?.............

What do other M135I owners drive when the tough get going for the BMW?

Suzuki Vitara?.................. :D

There are a couple of things that surprise me about this M4 debate. Firstly it isn't a hot hatch as per thread title, but that's a minor point. Mainly the thing I find odd is the confusion that still seems to permeate around here, that numbers equal fun. in the dry an M4 would and should drop the many 4x4 hatches out there and in the wet, the tables would be turned. And as has been shown in recent videos, around a tight handling circuit, the Honda Civic kills everything, 4x4s and M cars alike. But if all I wanted was straight line speed then I'd get a fast bike. The M4 has a great engine, one that stands above comparison with any of the FWD or 4x4 hatches (although the RS3 probably runs it close in a few areas), it also has great handling, something which still seems to be confused with grip. Roadholding is important, but as the Toyobaru BRZ86s have shown, handling and fun are not the same thing as grip and acceleration numbers. Given the choice between an M3/4 and a hot hatch, most people would take the M car if cost were not an overriding factor (Disclaimer for those that feel it is important in this debate: yes, there will be people who must have a hatch :dull:  ),

I know I bought a hatchback that is probably the most compromised car in it's class and then some, but I bought it purely for the fact it gave me more back, the more I put into it. If I got some mega anodyne universal panacea of competence, then I would lose interest in it and this time round I prioritised the fun and enjoyment element over the 'Uber crushing ability' of it over it's peers. I am lucky in that I can also run a small hatch 4x4 that enables me to be focused in the choice of car I want for entertainment, but it's a great place to be. I'd love a Cayman or a TVR etc, cars that would struggle against a modern hyper hatch around a dry circuit, let alone a wet one, but I for one know which car I would want to be in if I had the choice.

When I bought my first Impreza Turbo over 20 years ago, I was led to it partly because of the numbers I had read in magazines and various reviews and sure enough it was seriously quick back in the day, but the truth was it handled like a stuck pig, under-steering horribly when pressed. Luckily the second one I bought was a huge improvement, but it showed me that the two cars, with similar performance figures and probably similar track times, were poles apart in the fun and handling stakes. The Golf R and it's clones are great cars and undoubtedly quick in all weathers, but if I was offed the M4!!! My God I'd bite the hand off of the key holder and wouldn't look back at a 4x4/FWD all weather hatch, at least for my fun :) I wouldn't want to be the owner of a C63 going cross country if a Honda Civic decided to bite it's heels, that is unless I just got plain old satisfaction from driving my ridiculously powerful V8 RWD monster about (and I would). Sod the numbers, enjoy the ride I say.

fabdavrav, after a 'heads up' I read your last post. As I mentioned previously, I can't see your posts anymore, so if you direct them toward me they wont be seen. This last one of your being an unfortunate exception.

Some might say your 'mate' needs to wipe his vagina, change his tampon and learn to drive properly..... hehe ;-)

On a serious note, living in the paradise climate of Cornwall (lol) I've never heard of these harsh conditions of which you speak.... If it was properly arctic outside id take swmbos Fabia out. But only because I wouldn't want to risk some numpty sliding/crashing into my M-lite :-)

The problem with the 'ignore' list is when someone quotes the 'ignored' person, you can then see their original post :D

When I move into my cave and start to live my life vicariously, I will buy a standard spec family hatch, with no pretence at performance and tell others how their fast cars are all rubbish :D
