Learned to drive in ford prefect, 3 speed , vacuum wipers, side valve engine. First bike 98 cc James comet only two gears on that. Still ride but a BMW R1100RS now.

My dad and his mate were forever going out on the bikes (fireblade and ninja), and he plans on getting another one soon so that is giving me a bit more motivation just to go and get it done!

At 16 I learnt on a Suzuki AY50 Kantana, then car I learnt in a 2006 Focus diesel and my Nova 1.3 SR. Then big bike I had to redo my CBT on a YBR 125 and my bike test on a Fazer 600. Little bike of practice on my brothers GSXR 600 too :D

My Fabia MK1, had a few cars since but none written off or damaged,

Learned in my Dads 1992 Citreon ZX volcane.  1.9 petrol.  Quite awesome little car to learn in looking back.  Quite forgiving.  Eg approach roundabout 3 to 2 goes to 4th, car doesn't stall and just keeps going :D

I learned and passed in that car with no proper lessons.  At the time I felt lots of practise (as in ALL the time) and reading books was enough.

I learned a bit like that. I used to drive my Dad around his insurance collection. I think he liked being chauffeured. Only has 14 lessons (applied after 9) which was quite low for the mid 90s test (no theory or that).  Passed first time 2 minors.

Took a few months to do the bike a couple of lessons a week. Passed first time too.

I leaned to drive in the mid '70's in a Ford Anglia on a farm.  Passed my test in 1981 at 17 years old in my 1972 Austin 1300 Van Den Plas.

Had a 50cc Honda Camino at 16 years old, but never progressed to a bike, despite it being in the family genes.

Learned to drive in my dads fiat 132, took my test in a peugeot 205 back in 1986.

A Royal Mail Morris 1000 van that had     dual controls (1973). Passed my car test Nov '73, bike test in July '70. Both at the second attempt.

My mums 1966 Fiat 500. Crash box, so double declutching all the time. No power at all. Failed 1st time for not keeping up with traffic, you couldn't. Didn't have a 0-60, it didn't go that fast.

Learned to drive in my dad's cars - Renault 21 Savannah 2.0 petrol (good) and 1.9 diesel (crap). Also a Citroen ZX 1.9 TD (actually quite a nice car and felt fairly nippy) and a 1.9 TDI VW Sharan.

I learned to pass my test in a Fiesta 1.4 TDCI and 1.4 petrol Citroen C3.

Learned to drive in a Clipper Blue Mini ( car gone but still got the registration ) and passed my test in my Dads Vauxhall Viva 1300GLS which was a bit flat if I remember in 1980.

Showing my age now!

Had around 30 cars since, my first a Ford Escort 1100 ( KUY130K), the Ford XR3's , numerous Golf GTI to the latest Yeti.

Have to say, thoroughly enjoyed the journey.....

Passed my bike test in 1978 on a Suzuki GT 250,

I learned to drive a car in 1979 in a Triumph Dolomite 1300 and passed that year.

Learnt on a Raleigh Runbout moped and passed my bike test on a BSA Bantam D3

First 'car' was a Reliant Supervan II (like Del Boy's but in blue) driven on my motorbike licence and passed my car test in a Mini (the original version). Both tests were passed first time.

I have a fully paper driving licence and I miss the old Red one that it replaced.

I also have a book of petrol coupons somewhere from a 70's fuel crisis scare but they were never used.

First car i drove at 13 was dads 1993 525i in 1997 around the lanes between our shed and me grannys house for washing it on a saturday morning, to earn me pocket money for jiujitsu class that afternoon. First lessons was in a 1998 civic dual control instructors car (reduced my premium to have proof of training at 17). Then me mum's Saxo 1.0litre.... hated it, feet too wide for the pedals. My sister bought that from her as a first car after uni, and so i drove and passed my test in the Getz that replaced it, i bought it as a first car, and then taught my now missus to drive in it before she took that as her first car... and crashed it the day before her test into the back of a lorry at a roundabout.. byebye Getz... 68bhp iirc and around 870kg kerb weight, SOHC 4 pot engine, it went (relatively speaking) like the clappers and never once let me or swmbo down.

You don't get the same colonic moments either! Not had a bike for a few years now as I've got too much on my plate at the moment to make use of one but its top of the retirement bucket list.

Do it, do it, do it.

I cant stop looking at honda sp1 n 2's tonight. I might just have to sell the vfr for one....

A bit complicated / various overlaps. Back in the early - mid 60's, things were a lot more laid-back.

1965 Started driving tractors, followed by Land Rovers, dumper trucks and similar - initially off road, but gradually round country lanes.

1967, bought a 197 cc James, followed by a 250 cc Royal Enfield Continental, and booked a bike test. Unfortunately I got smashed up on the RE, so borrowed my Bro's Durkopf Diana scooter to pass it.

1969, I paid £20 for a 1956 Hillman Minx. Drove it around with only a provisional licence for a couple of years.

1971, bought 5 driving lessons (to break bad habits i'd gotten into) and used the DI's Ford Anglia to pass my car test.

Do it, do it, do it.

ah well, I will but not just yet. one thing that's deffo not on the list is another sports bike.... been there, done that for 5 years, managed to survive as did my licence, though in all honesty I'd probably be a danger to myself and other road users now (providing I could manage to assume the position again!) It will probably be either a naked r1200r, a r1200gs a r1200rt or equivelent from another manufacturer depending on whether SWMBO will be riding shotgun, but that's for another thread at some stage.....but I will remain a Harley free zone.....

1983, I had 20 minutes in a Vauxhall Chevete with 2 others on an air field... Simply to make sure I knew what the pedals did and where the steering thing was...as long as I did not kill anyone they were happy..... Then out into the roads round Hull/Beverly in a Bloody Big 4x4 Bedford MK HGV.....

Very cavalier instructor..lol

Sounds familiar..but mine was 1982, I shared my Chevette with a para and he was really "thick" he just could not understand or do anything.

Jumped in on a Monday morning with the para, did half a day each up to Bridlington for fish and chips, same on the Tuesday.

On the Wednesday took my test with a civilian QTO in the middle of Hull at 09:00hrs and passed first time after avoiding a few push bikes!

Stayed on at Leconfield and did my 4x4, trailer familiarisation training, some off road and night drives, then sent to Catterick to complete my trade training, with more off road training, then straight to Germany...happy days

Learnt to drive in my mum's Ford Fiesta 1300S and took my test in it (passed first time - Nov '79).

Learnt to ride on a variety of my brothers mates bikes including a Honda PC50, a BSA Bantam, Honda CG125, Suzuki TS185, various KH 250's/SI's, GT250, RD350, Honda 400/4 and then when I was old enough to get a provisional license (at 16), I bought an FS1E DX and at 17 passed my test on a Yamaha RD125 (Sep '79). Happy days!!

Learnt to ride on my Yamaha FS1E when I was 16, had a Kawasaki KH250 ready and waiting in the garage which I put on the road the day I was 17, passed my bike test a few weeks later.

Learnt to drive in my first car a Riley Kestrel 1300 (RMA 408D) which I also had waiting for me when I turned 17.

EDIT: That's just made me look up Riley Kestrel. The article states the later ones went from 1100cc to 1300cc and 70bhp which produced 'lively' performance - how things have changed https://www.motorbase.com/vehicle/profile/riley-kestrel/

Passed in 1966 in a Mk1 Ford Cortina....took time off school for lessons (20 sessions 1 hour each at £1 a time..17th birthday present).

Later same year joined Post Office telephones as an apprentice and saved for six weeks to buy a Ford Thames 100e van in a fetching shade of black!

Fortunately my dad was workshop foreman at the local Ford main dealers and we lived on the premises so Ford motoring was quite cheap, until he retired.

I learned to drive and later passed my test in VW split screen camper. It was surprisingly easy to drive, I loved it.

A little story, a couple of weeks after passing my test I run into the back of a car on my Lambretta, I broke my thumb. The guy driving the car was the driving examiner who tested and passed me, he remembered me when I took my helmet off.
