Utilizing the space under the variable boot floor (Estate)

Featured Replies

I'm still waiting for our Octavia to arrive, but in the mean time I started thinking about taking advantage of all the trunk space...

I picked the variable boot floor because I appreciate having a flat loading area. I also often carry a lot of small items that would fit under the floor quite nicely. However I would appreciate if they didn't roll around in there freely.

I'd like to be able to divide the space so I'm still able to place the boot cover roll in there when needed, but the rest of the space would have nice divided sections...it would also be a bonus to be able to pick up this compartment in one or two pieces so if I ever need to get to the spare wheel quickly, I can. I'm thinking of building something myself (out of film laced plywood and covered with fabric), but I'd love a ready made solution.

What kind of solutions have you found for compartmentalizing the space under the variable boot floor?

Not sure how the fixing points look under the vary floor - but a cheap-ish option would possibly be to put a cargo net on the lower floor, you can then just tuck whatever you want to stop rolling around under it but are not lugging around extra weight in wood of something home made - also simple to remove if necessary.

I've got standard floor but the red/black cargo nets and find them good and look fairly smart.

That's one possible solution, but I'd like to be able to easily get a whole bunch of really small items out of the trunk to get to the spare at some point. And as for weight, the solution I'm thinking won't weigh that much, I'm thinking of (max.) 10 mm film laced plywood...of course it won't be quite as light as the styrofoam compartment my current car came with.

Any more ideas? Am I really the only one who has had this problem?

All the odds and ends are in an old rucsac under my VBF, seems to do the job fine. Everything else is loose (seat covers, tow rope, jump leads, load straps) and none of it slides around.

Three of these (UK link) fits perfectly under the inner section of the VBF. With the matching lids they keep the small stuff in place ...

It's in no way a perfect solution but it does the job while waiting for a better solution. Light weight and cheap at least :)

How about trying a cutlery drawer insert for small items. Line each with a piece of the "perforated" non slip rubber to stop rattles. The non slip could also be used in SweScouts's IKEA trays
