Plumbers gold or Shell tixophalte?

Featured Replies

Gonna seal my rear doors up soon and see plumbers gold and Shell tixophalte are what people recommend as the best sealants.

Which one should I go for??

Thanks

Ok thanks, I know this might sound silly but I see plumbers gold comes in black, white and clear does the colour make any difference?

Thanks

No difference at all.

I went to get clear but had none in stock so got white, worked perfectly and definitely fixed my leaky rear doors.

It's hidden behind the door card so can't be seen anyway.

Plumbers gold gets my vote, done mine this weekend:

Yeah I did think that thanks for the advice!

Wow Sam, you've really made sure they have sealed! :D

I've used the Shell stuff as I know it would work even if the door was soaked still.

Not sure of it's the same deal with PG?

It is :)

In that case, either or!

The Shell stuff is rather messy to work with IME :D

Yeah i went ott but they were ****ing me off, could see water staining runing down in a few different places and some of the rivits were loose. Atleast i wont have to worry about it now!

Plumbers gold - 5 years dry :)

Would it to try and make wind noise abit quiter aswell?

Not likely unless you plan on glueing the door shut.

Used bond it pu18 on mine as we sell it at my work

Recommended for automotive trade, did the trick on mine

Get the white or the black. Easier to see/work with and easier to see problems with (if?!?) afterwards.

Also worth trying Wickes roof & gutter sealent mine has held for over 4 years now. Whatever sealent is used do not worry about it looking neat, just put plenty of the stuff in and around the seals and rivets. Good luck

PG for me.  Took a few weeks for the damp to finally dry up but I applied it when the weather was crappy (no choice as so much was coming through) and it eventually sealed and set.  Great job.  I bought a cheap Ebay sourced pack of plastic putty knives for popping off the door cards and applying the PG.  Used white as easy to see where it had been applied.  Don't forget (as most do LoL) to wipe the area down first with Meths or similar to degrease otherwise it wont adhere properly and you'll have the task of stripping it all off and starting again (as I did  :swear: )

Cancelled post and started a new thread instead.

i used plumbers gold but picked up the clear. still works as it should, but its harder to see when putting on. smooth it off with a wet finger afterwards.

I have tried several local outlets of plumbers, plumbers merchants etc to locate some Plumbers Gold and they had never even heard of it so, I'm at a bit of a loss. Can anyone give any suggestions as to where I might get some? I am in the West central belt of Scotland.

S'alright I've found some.

got mine off fleabay.

Eventually found an outlet of Toolstation in Kilmarnock that held stock and... was open on a Sunday afternoon, Yeeha!
