Modifications to do to a vrs

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm getting a standard vrs and want to know what's good to do to it.

So far I have the below on my possible to do list (just working out what I want first as budget is about 1.5k to begin with):

Performance-

RARB and poss FARB

remap

Better brakes

Looks-

Wheels

Splitter

Tinted Windows

De-chrome grille - either carbon or body colour / colour coded door handles

Exhaust

Anything else pretty obvious I am missing?

Cheers,

Tom

de chrome the grille is a popular option and imo looks lots better! :notme:

Start with handling mods and then seek more power.

So uprated bushes, better brakes, coilovers, RARB and don't forget decent tyres then look at remaps etc.

Most cost effective option, buy one already modified. If not Southy has hit the nail on the head IMO.

Exhaust is a waste of money from a performance point of view, only really starts to become a restriction with the larger turbos, unless you want it for the sound which is fair enough but the money can be better spent elsewhere. You could just have the back box made up or a pipe with an exit of your choice welded on for a lot cheaper than a cat back/turbo back.

Similar to what others have suggested my money would be on...

Handling:
Rear anti roll bar

Console bushes

Brakes (performance pads with OE/Mintex discs, braided lines and fresh fluid)
Good tyres are a given! - Pointless spending hundreds upgrading the handling of the car to run mediocre low to mid-range tyres
LSD - Will likely eat up a huge chunk of your initial budget, personally I'd leave it until last and get all the other bits done first
AP spring/shock kit
Powerflex engine mount insert

Power:
Remap*
*Boost hoses (they nearly always leak, well worth looking at after market options/DIY or doing the zip tie 'fix' as a minimum before the remap)
*Cleaning out the EGR valve and inlet manifold could also be beneficial prior to the remap, could look into an egr delete from DarkSide Developments if you want to also eliminate future build up of gunk. Not a huge fan of the elephant mod or catch cans personally.

Should all be doable on a £1.5k budget if you can fit the parts yourself, bar the LSD that is.

My humble opinion FWIW is that initially, a remap, egr delete and rear ARB are all you really need to make a significant improvement.  The standard brakes are perfectly adequate unless you intend on doing track days.  Fit some Ferodo 2500 pads and drilled vented brembo discs if you must.  Most people chasing brake upgrades generally ignore the most obvious (and cheapest) one which is to get the brakes bled.  Chances are most wont have been done at say yearly intervals.  This alone makes a huge difference to braking efficiency if you are running fluid that's years old. I reckon the only benefit to upgrating to bigger discs etc is if you're heavy on the brakes all the time (point and squirt driving as some call it).  Be smooth and you wont need anything over standard.

The whiteline RARB I've found to be excellent for the money.  Transforms the handling (which I have to say in standard trim is borderline dangerous if pushed...all that weight at the front and not enough anti-roll and suspension control).  After riding in versions with lowered and (even more) stiffened suspension, my view was that it wrecked the ride for most roads.  Standard set up is pretty good to begin with tbh, but posher shocks may improve things further.

I agree with the bushes being replaced or upgraded.  They're a source of suspension play and noise, and affect handling quite a bit when worn.  tyre choice is a personal thing but the vRS seems sensitive to tyre choice so don't skimp.  I run Uniroyal Rainsport 3 tyres year round and find them excellent.

diff is 1 of the best mods for any car fkin awesome as for power hybrid turbo don't waist money on a pd150 lasted me 3 weeks and that was a genuine one check out turbo dynamics £250 back for your old unit aswell and a 2 yr guarantee

I agree with the suggestions everyone has made but what power are you chasing, You listed a lsd if its just a map your wanting then imo you wont really need i never needed it, so save the money and do handling mods along with the map etc. if going hybrid power the yes go for the lsd.

depend if you use your vehicle in the dry only

depend if you use your vehicle in the dry only

no i used it in the wet too, and was still ok anything around the 170/180 bhp wet or dry is useable, Im not saying dont go for the lsd just saying if thats the power figure he after as he didnt mention hybrid turbos etc save the money and get decent handling mods

Erm why not add the 1.5k to the amount you have for the car and buy something that doesn't require the mods?

A LSD with a decent new clutch & flywheel will blow your budget in parts alone!

I don't think you'll 'need' one unless your aiming for at least 200hp with a hybrid/ bigger turbo set up.

haha thanks that is what i was trying to say lol

You don't ever 'need' an LSD, it's just far more beneficial too have one. In my eyes, if you're gunna be doing plenty of trackdays and stuff then yeh get one, if you're gunna be ragging it around the streets with no intention of doing track work don't waste money on al LSD.

Coilovers, Remap, RARB and some decent discs and pads will see the world if difference.

you're completely missing the point here as usual lol. I said diff's are beneficial, I didn't say they weren't worth it. I said they aren't worth it if all you're gunna be doing is ragging it round the streets like a little boy racer.

Save yourself a packet and buy a modded one. TBH this is never going to be a great handling car but can be improved substantially from standard.

Doing lots to a Fabia VRS is expensive. Simplest is best - mild remap and a RARB. Or add a decent spring/damper package. A reasonably stiff RARB and 25-30mm lowering gives far less opportunity for the inside front wheel to spin away out of tighter corners or junctions.

If performance is higher on the list, I wouldn't get a Fabia VRS. Probably get a PD140 in some form on the MK4 chassis. Golf/Jetta/Leon/A3.... And go from there.

Lol or you could just buy a car thats designed to put the power down to begin with?
