Bass

As I use spotify over bluetooth, the stereo has the option to boost the volume for bluetooth devices. This makes the sound fairly decent, although the volume clipping is still very annoying. This is on a standard bolero. The sound from SD, CD and USB I think is pretty awful!

My wife is a size 22, just how much BASS do you want

  • It was custom-built (so no details on the actual woofer, to begin with) and the amp is tucked away below, so that will be difficult.   However, the Octavia is one of the most leased cars (here in th

  • I'd be interested to hear your feedback on that once it's fitted. I wonder how easily it'd plug into the back of the Amundsen

Something I am noticing more and more is that even the standard sound system highlights poorly recorded/produced audio sources.

Listening to some higher quality bit rate DAB stations, some music sounds great (and goes quite loud) others sound horrible and I end up either turning it down or changing stations.

I dont think any of the standard hardware is poor at all, rather the way the audio is processed by the HU (frequency capping it particularly) just ruins it. Skoda really should look to remove any such artificial frequency capping from the system, if users want to jack up the sound and blow their speakers let them...just charge them for the replacements! I havent blown a speaker for I dont know how long anyway!

I've got the canton upgrade but sound from CD or USB blows away the Bluetooth quality I get from spotify or google play. However if I plug the phone in via the aux jack the quality is on par with my USB as long as my phone has a good signal to stream from

Does anyone know if the Amundsen head unit has an output terminal for connecting a subwoofer? My last car and my current 2cv had a small amplified sub fitted under the driver's seat which was great. Enough to feel and hear it without shaking the car apart.

Bass is where it's at! Be it a double, electric or just a great song through a subwoofer!

Well o use my iPhone 6 through the BMW Y cable in a MINI. The sound is terrible quality, despite it having Harmon Kardon. Adjusting the equaliser does make it better, wondering if the same applied to Skoda.

I've been using a USB stick in my Octy today and the sound is great. Also used Bluetooth too and pretty pleased with it.

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk the free non retired version!

Oh and the DAB sound as bit muufly, like the tone has been turned right down.

I'm not overly impressed with the dab sound quality in mine but I think its pretty station dependant. Very disappointed with planet rock in the car but it sounds good through my Yamaha mini system in my workshop(shed)

  • 3 weeks later...

I have the Canton upgrade soundsystem. The soundquality is ok, but I could hardly tell any difference when I adjusted the subwoofer up and down on my radio. Last week I stopped by the garage neaby. Told them my problem. They did a software-upgrade on my unit. What a difference!! I had to turn down the subwoofer. I am happy now:)

I've just taken delivery of a new Scout with the Amundsen head unit and was also rather disappointed with the lack of bass, especially when compared to the previous Volvo I had, which in hindsight had an excellent standard system. I would be interested in anyone's experience with adding an after-market sub that doesn't require i) spending a fortune or ii) pulling the car apart unduly - it is a company car.

Other than the lack lustre audio I am extremely pleased with the rest of the car... oh apart from the lack of postcode search on the sat-nav!! It's 2015, how on earth did they manage to build a sat-nav that doesn't support post-code searches!

You need to let it play for a while to get the full potenisial out of your system. New loudspeakers sounds really bad1

I believe there is a postcode search, look for a Postcde button in the bottom left after you've clicked Town/City.

I have to say same is rather true for the basic system.

It was woeful, not so bad after jackinf up the bass and trebble...but 13 months in the sound is actually now quite nice it just rather lacks volume and the artificial frequency control theyve implemented on the system (to protect the speakers no doubt) is woeful.

I really do wish Id gone Canton, will do if I ever happen to buy another Mk3.

Sounds counter intuitive but up the bass and mid at least to near max (or max) and then use a fair bit of volume....over a few weeks it will run in and sound better.

The standard system does lack volume but with the bass and mid cranked up does sound quite good.

You're absolutely right, thank-you for pointing out my complete lack of experience with this system

Is this postcode search a british thing? Never heard of it being used quite like you guys use it before.

No problem.  :)

Yes, a full postcode will get you to a defined area in a town or city. It's generally the properties on one side of a road or on one side of part of a road depending on how long the road is. The postcode plus a house number will get you directly to a property and is easier to enter than a city and road name.

I see. Here a postcode only defines a larger area.

Can someone pop up a picture of the Canton Subwoofer location in the boot of Octavia Mk3 Hatch please, my brother is thinking of choosing this on his new car and wants to see how big it is and whether it will interfere with his golf bag and trolley?

Weirdly enough I find the opposite - the sound over Bluetooth is much better than from the USB or SD card, which both sound a bit 'tinny' and lack bass, even trying MP3s coded in a variety of ways.

The sound from the CD unit though is fantastic.

Really there should be no difference between them as its all digital... But I just can't get a good consistent quality from the Bluetooth it often makes a crackly background noise.
