Recommended GAP insurance

Featured Replies

Pick my car up next week, need to get some GAP insurance, can anyone recommend a company....

I've just had a trawl through the Internet, know roughly what I'll pay... But didn't know if there is a better company to go to

(Last time I just took the one the van centre quoted, and now realise I paid over the odds)

Try Chris Knott Insurance

Got my Gap insurance from them last week

Take a look here:

Just taken out a policy with them, if you have a few minutes (or if you don't then find some!) and have a read. David is very helpful and their GAP cover seems better than most.Plus you can get a discount being a Briskoda member.

Cheers, I'll have a read

Second the GAPinsurance deal with David, pretty good price and discount, cover seems good and advice tailored to your exact situation. You also get £5 back for saying you bought from them on facebook!

I used ALA last time, the Briskoda scheme wasn't up and running then :)

My wife used ALA for her Rapid Spaceback, cover was for the same duration but value £6k less, still cost her £25 more than GAPinsurance and had less benefits.

I'll check out the Chris Knott one next time round.

What is the current price for Skoda Gap insurance from a dealer?

£399 for four years, if car written off write off value goes up to the sale price when you bought it +£50 cash back.

Wow, over 3 times the price of ALA on a return to invoice GAP.

Yep I used ALA for my Skoda and my BMW, thought they were the most competitive on price at the time, with good cover

I think i paid £250 on my transporter, which was nearly twice as much....

Sorted now, thanks for recommendations, they all look the same on Google, and hopefully it'll never be used.

Only just stumbled across this post... just to second what others have already said... I am www.gapinsurance.co.uk and forum members get 10% discount.

I'm happy to answer any questions whatsoever about GAP insurance, whether you buy from us or not.

Give me a shout if you need anything.

Best wishes

David

I bought Replacement GAP insurance through David above.  Excellent advice and I was very happy with the premium and the cover.

Got 5 yrs with ALA, new for old (return to invoice) with 12% discount applied via the phone that quidco are offering -£307. Thats 25k cover. Probably not the cheapest but highly recommended via here.

You mention New-For-Old but then appear to specify "return to invoice" - if you have an RTI policy (we call it "Invoice GAP Insurance") it isn't New-For-Old cover.  You'd need Replacement GAP insurance for that.

Or... is it that you're relying on your Motor Insurer's New-For-Old cover in the first year and then RTI cover in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th year?

Out of interest too... what was the invoice price of your vehicle (the actual On-The-Road (cash) price) and how did this compare (assuming you bought it brand new) to the manufacturer's full list price?

I've just replied Kevin - cheers.

I am picking up my Vrs next week. It is on a pch lease over 3 years with an invoice price of £25k.

Do you need gap on a lease, cannot really afford it but worth looking into maybe.

Hi David

Thanks for your post - took out one of of your policies this morning after reading your post. People are put off by the huge cost from Dealers. When I bought my car last month they wanted £500 for 3 year gap and £400 for an Autoglym treatment. I said no. They then offered the treatment for free if I took the gap. I decided no again. The Autoglm cost me £30 locally and you £20K 5 year gap was £288 which is great value.

Thanks for posting.

For a lease car you can't really afford not to take out GAP insurance I would suggest, not the other way round!

Hi both,

Currently awaiting a VRS on Skoda PCH (VWFS) lease.

I've had a quick look at GAP insurance and come across differing views of what level of coverage is needed.

When I put in for quotes on a few websites they automatically go for the full list price of the car, which is around £25k inc. VAT.

However I've also seen lots of references to the 'invoice price' and making sure that the GAP covers up to this.

I'm aware that the dealer invoice price for the lease is around £15.5k exc VAT.

Which end of the scale should I be covering with GAP insurance?

Thanks

I'm afraid I don't have time to go in to this in too much detail right now (I'm just getting ready for a fundraising event this evening for a football team that I play for) but if you look here: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/332184-gap-insurance/page-2 (I think it's about the 25th post/comment on that page, from me) I give some advice about Contract Hire Agreements and how actually you may not need GAP insurance at all - it all depends on the wording of your Contract Hire Agreement.

I apologise for any typos in this message, I'm typing quickly on an iPhone and the productive text is a killer!

Cheers

David

Hopefully getting my new VRS next week so I'll be giving you a ring on Monday.
