Hello,

A wee puzzle for you.

The dipped headlights on my 1995 Favorit work without problems, but the relevant dashboard lamp is somewhat sporadic. It only works after 20 miles of driving with the heater blowing full blast (which is conveniently its only setting - full blast or off...). It happens too often to be coincidence!

Is there some quirk of wiring that means it only works when hot?

Not an urgent problem as the lights themselves are fine. I'm just intrigued.

Thanks,

Jon

Nothing mysterious here. It is one of the many variants of intermittent contacts. Any electronic component and circuit may have the tendency to go intermittent and it all depends on the circuit design, quality of components, environment and other factors. In your case it is triggered by the temperature variation. You need to access the back of the instrument cluster when the cabin is cold, turn key on and headlights on, and start wiggle the bulb of the indicator then the connectors to PCB then tap on PCB. Most probably it is a bit of corrosion, a cold solder or a tiny crack on PCB tracks.

Thank you very much! I will post again if and when I get it sorted. To be honest, the switch itself can be a little delicate, so I may start there before getting in behind the instruments.

Much appreciated.
