can someone reccomend me headunits for my skoda

when i replace my headunit what accessories would i need to buy

i just need someone who has done this before tell me what the bought and how they done it

Please =)

Thankyou Guys

What sort of budget do you have in mind?  I'd recommend taking a look at the Kenwood DNX52x series, they have the DNX520, DNX521 and now the newest I think is the DNX525.  These units are made as drop in replacements for VW so you simply need to swap the two units over and that's you done, because you have a Stream MP3 head unit you would need replacement trim as the nav head units (including the Skoda head units) are smaller.

I had a 56 plate VRS with the Stream MP3 and went for the DNX520VBT as my CAN gateway was one of the older revisions which would have meant battery drain issues with some of the newer Skoda head units and I'd read on here the Kenwood had better sound quality.  Its sat nav is a Garmin off the shelf system which I don't find great but believe it's better than the VW version.  I believe the Kenwood DNX520 doesn't integrate with the parking sensors or maxidot, the 521 might have better functionality but I'm not sure in that regard.  The Kenwood units also have a video for a reversing camera, do you have one fitted already or is that a feature you want?

I have put the Amun+ in mine for just over £200 well worth it!

What is Amun+ ? my budget is £200

and yeah i dont mind replacing the reverse sensor with a camera ? is it hard to replace?

but my budget it £200

Amun+ is the Amundsen head unit. There was the Amundsen and the Amundsen+. I think the + versions had built in BT Bluetooth functionality. All that was needed to activate was a mic., rather than also needing the Bluetooth module, which is an extra requirement with other head units (if you want Bluetooth).

Amundsen is a RNS310

Amundsen+ is a RNS315

Despite the similar names, part numbers and even look, internally they are completely different and made by different manufacturers. The RNS315 is available with bluetooth built in but not all units have, a simple check is the sticker to see if it has an address listed for the bluetooth interface - if it's all 0's, no bluetooth.

Not sure if either will display the parking sensor information as the parking module changed (there is a thread about fitting the newer one) and I'm pretty sure there will be possible battery drain issues unless you change the can gateway (about £20-30 and simple to do with VCDS access).

The ICE section may be a better place for this thread.

No the Amun doesn't support the built in parking sensors however.... I have seen on here some one has made a rear cam work with there's:)

Rear camera isn't possible with a RNS310 (there is no video in connector) but I believe it is with the RNS315.

As far as I know, the RNS310, RNS315 and RNS510 aren't compatible with the older PDC style parking sensors.

If you upgrade to OPS (address 10) rather than PDC, (address 76) you will get them shown on the above headunits. This involves both wiring and modules changes.

If i was going to buy one such as kenwood/pioneer hopefully buy reverse camera with it

would i need to purchase double din headunit fitting kit 7" / iso cable what other cables

what is can-bus about, people say i need that

can someone please explain the exact parts i will need to buy if i wanted to changed my headunit to aftermark such as kenwood or alpine

as im a newbie i have only done simple double dins on astras very straight forward

i was really hoping to get the parts this weekend but not sure what i need, Please help

Thanks

if you went for an aftermarket headunit i'd go to skoda and buy a kit. You can also buy whilst there a new facia and as you are getting it from skoda you can make sure its 100% the correct one as there are loads.

Your car has canbus which is a data system controlling the cars electronics. Because of this you have no switched live going to your current headunit, you will need to fix this issue by using one of two methods.

1. Buy a loom adaptor which also has a box for steering controls with it. This will give you a switched live to your headunit.

2. Buy a normal loom and run a cable from a spare switched live in the fuse box at the drivers end of the dash (behind the plastic pannel)

I personally went for the first option, much more expensive but a lot less hassle.

my car doesn't have any steering controls :/  is there any videos out there to help me fit it?

as a company said they would fit one for £120 sounds abit pricey

are you able to send a link where i can buy a loom adaptor

i have done standard headunits what has positive and negative connections and a simple iso for steering

i will go to skoda tomorrow to buy a headunit fitting kit and facia i will also show them the headunit size i will be getting which is 7"

is that okay size?

Hello what is a can bus

does it save your battery draining?

because i want a DVD unit and i will be watching DVDs without the engine running

but i dont want my battery dieing

but i want an aftermarket headunit

like I said, CANBUS is a system which controls the electrics in your car.

If you want to play dvd's etc with the engine off i'd suggest a few options.

1. Fit a voltmeter so you can keep an eye on voltage of the battery

2. Fit an uprated battery (largest AH etc you can fit)

3. Fit a second battery

Your car doesnt need steering controls. Mine doesnt have them but the box helps to create a switched signal

Headunit sizes; You have Single Din, Double Din. You are talking about a Double din, these are standard sizes. I think the 7" you have read might be the screen size (which is the diagonal across the screen)

This is what Connects2 recomended using
