Cruise Control is no longer working

Featured Replies

Hi

Just noticed that cruise control button no longer works, I am really missing it!

I am going to be driving to Sweden in May so must get this working beforehand.

Has anyone got any advice on what might be wrong?

Thanks

Mark

Or for a more permanent fix, put a sliver of solder on the circuit board connections (on both sides) that push into the connector block.

I have cleaned the switch contacts a few times and while it did get the cruise control working, it was only temporary.

I think if you just jiggle the connector block / circuit board it will probably get it working.

Since the soldering solution, mine has worked since.

Hi

Thank you both very much for your posts.

I'll try the cleaning option first and see how it goes and then the soldering permanent fix.

Thanks again.

Hi

Finally got around to doing the cleaning tonight and it worked so I am very grateful!!

I noticed some white gunk on the circuit board immediately so cleaned it off and cleaned the contacts as well just in case.

The build was different to that in the PDF but was close enough to help and so saved me from taking it in to a dealership and costing £££.

Cheers

Mark

Hi Mark,

Just curious - did you disconnect said circuit board to clean it, as this jiggling (disconnection / reconnection) of the contacts can be enough to get it working again.

Cleaning doesn't hurt it, But I suspect in most cases when people clean them, it is this jiggling of the contacts in the block that gets it working again.

Mine is still working as used it this morning, and (I believe) VW solder these connections now!

Cheers.

Mike Holroyd posted this attachment sometime ago and it is an excellent article to often revive your cruise control . However , being of the lazy variety , who for example purposely bought a house that did not have a lawn so that I could sail at weekends , has found an even simpler solution .

Follow pages 1-3 and then simply get a can of compressed air and blow around and in-between the components without taking them apart - the result in twenty seconds was perfectly restored unit .

My life is made so much easier with electrics , and no knowledge of the black art , simply by having a can of compressed air and pure silicon spray .

Back to my coffee and the armchair ......

Thanks for this posted info, my CC had been annoying me for a few years with it intermittent working. It packed up completely a few weeks ago, and today found this thread.

Less than 10 mins had the switch removed , clean with some of the girlfriends nail varnish remover and re-fitted. Works as it should now

Ta muchly
