Anyone Terracleaned?

Featured Replies

Has anyone terracleaned their TDI's and is it worth doing as preventative maintenance?

My VRS is now on 60k, out of warranty, and I have just extended warranty with warrantywise.

Looking at the small print, issues caused by carbonisation - ie soot build up - EGR in particular, is not covered - the reason why I took this out in the first place. May have to relook at this as I can still cancel.

The question is, how do in know how much soot build up there is currently?

My mileage is around 15k motorway and 7k london annually, on Esso diesel.

So if it works, it seems that £100 ish every other year may be money well spent?

Info on terraclean here: https://www.terraclean.co.uk/book-a-terraclean?closestdealer=38,

but would be interesting to hear from anyone thatb has actually had it done

Cheers

Ive never used it, but using logic what does it do?

It will remove carbon build up from the intake system > probably

It will put it all into the cylinder and hopefully it will come out > probably

If the above 2 happen all of the sludge / carbon build up will make it through the catalytic converter substrate > hopefully

If the above 3 happen it will then pass through your DPF > very little chance unless the particles are smaller than 0.09 micron [your hair strands are about 90 - 100 micron]

Cleaning out the intake system is a good thing but you've got to get it out as well :-(

EGR is always going to be an issue on the tdi. Having mine deleted next Tuesday!

And you can fairly easily remove and clean the EGR valve manually, at least on some of the Octy engines.

When my EGR is removed I'll be cleaning it and putting it up for sale if that interests you. Easily swapped!

Cleaning the Egr is a doddle on the cr vrs. Probably cheaper than a terraclean.

Thanks, I have a bottle of Archoil diesel additive, may use that

I was under the impression that the EGR is a PITA on my engine as it is at the back and takes around 5+ hours to remove? How would that be a doddle to clean?

Xpower, I totally agree, the crap will probably end up somewhere else. Perhaps not a good idea then.

Thanks

Is not the EGR at the front of the engine on the CR ?

A couple of guys at work had it done and I saw how they do it. They replace the fuel lines into the engine with lines from their device and put a loop on the fuel lines from the tank and back.

They then just run the engine on their fuel. So, if you have a direct injection engine, it will not clean the carbonised inlet valves. Nor will it clean an EGR. It effectively just runs your car on super-fuel. From what I can see, even from what the guy doing it himself said, the effect is more or less identical to just running your car on VPower.

In other words it sounds like snake oil and basically is snake oil...

hi folks

yeah, just bought a 2009 superb 2.0 TDI 140 bhp. Had trouble before with the EGR on other cars and paranoid about it at this stage....Is there any point in using those diesel additives to help stop the soot building up? Any videos out there to should how to clean the EGR at home?

what is the best thing to do? Driving the arse of it every now and then is not the answer, is it??

thanks

John
