VRS Remap

Only... (1) if Skoda finds out and (2) for the parts if affects  - i.e. engine, drive train etc.  If the windows leak they'd have a hard time pinning it on a remap!

I would be more worried about your insurance..unless you inform them of course. I know of accident investigations where remaps were identified. Now I know people may say so what? And I agree ...if you have declared it.

Thanks guys i think i would declare it to the insurance but I'm worried that the remap might leave me with a hefty bill if something dose go wrong with the engine or drive train

Fitting of a tuning box will also void you warranty , of course it makes it easier to fraudulently claim the vehicle is standard

if the remap contributed to any failure then it's unlikely Skoda would complete the work under warrenty, though I've not heard any horror stories from those that have either fitted which would suggest neither cause any problems.

it's essential you declare any mods to the insurer otherwise you will invalidate your insurance and also leave yourself open to criminal proceedings if caught, so it's just not worth the risk IMO.

And are the plug and play tuning boxes any good or is it just a gimmick?

Avoid the cheap ones on ebay, but ones like DTUK make will give you a performance increase roughly equal to a stage 1 remap. On the latest engines a tuning box will be cheaper than a remap, plus of course you can easily remove it when ever you wish if for instance you pick up points speeding once fitted and your insurance premium then goes up beyond what you're prepared to pay. It's best to either fit the box or get the remap around your premium renewal time as you will probably need to shop around as some insurers won't cover you. Admiral, esure and LV will plus there are a number of specialist brokers who sponsor this site who will also give you a quote. Shark are well thought of on this forum and offer a discount for freedom members. If you want to explore that route give them a call as they were close to being able to supply a map via their hand held unit that just plugs into the odbc port rather than have to remove the ecu and break the seals to enable the ecu.

Tuning boxes leave no errornous trails however logic would say, VAG systems other than VCDS can find/trace engine outputs that don't compared to throttle inputs therefore, indicating some over boosting has occured in the past, whether VAG will do this kinda of investigation does depend on the kinda warranty claim being made but, common sense would say they probably do such an investigation for any engine/turbo failure at relatively low mileage.

 

Richy83, if you want more power you're gonna pay for it somewhere down the line, fit a tuning box, have fun, remove it for servicing and if nothing goes bang you can sell/PX the car when you've finished with it but, if it all goes Pete Tong you're more than likely to have to foot the bill, if you don't by some chance be very very gratefull.

In a nut shell, yes. If you're worried about voiding your warranty, wait until it expires. That's why I intend on doing.

 

Even with a tuning box, imagine you had an accident and weren't able to access the car in time, to remove it. Your insurance would be void and you could well end up liable.

I've been RTCs and seen the Traffic buys and guys actively looking for such devices and, right or wrong, they admit that if they find one their index of suspicion is raised. Please remember I said right or wrong..so no shouting at me etc, I'm too tired.

Exactly.  I declared mine and it added nothing to the premium, but should the worst happen the insurance will pay out.  

 

As it happens I have removed the Trevor as it doesn't seem to be working as well on the TDI 184 as I'd hoped.  I think this is likely to be the DSG torque-limiting the engine but I am not yet sure.  I need to call DTUK, but just not had the time yet.

Thanks for all the help i think i will wait a few months and see how i feel the car has plenty of power for now think i can wait till i have been driving the car for a bit longer be for i start messing about with it thanks again for all the help

Have read that if you use a Tuning box and remove it for a claim you should run a VCDS scan and clear any anomalous data before getting the car to the dealer - but not sure if this will really hide the use of a 'Box;s'  and its over fuel/boost history in the ECU
