Quattro part 3 going live soon - mostly photos. Monday will be the Suzuki review I think!

Reminds me I need to do the Yeti Monte Carlo...

The funny thing is, at least the way I figure it, that the Audi must have been considered to be a runner at the final stage of it's modding.  I.e. it had been butchered and bodged for several years in an attempt to keep it going, until eventually it was parked up for the last time. So somebody must have thought it was fine to have a car held together with sticky tape and scotch locks. it's quite incredible when you look at it's final state. It's also almost unbelievable that it was still a usable car too?

Yep agreed. I've been in contact with one of the previous owners who spent about 8k on the car in 2001 on clutch and several other things:

15/03/2001 Service

5/04/2001   Brakes Front and Rear

12/5/2001   Brake light switch

14/8/2001   Idle Adjuster

22/8/2001   Injector Seals

1/10/2001   Clutch

He was the one who owned it until 2012 but it was last on the road in 2005. It sounds like he bought a new car and lost interest in the Quatto, parking it up for several years before eventually selling it to the guy I bought it off, who put it in a shed ready for a project one day.

We're testing a few sub-$20k cars at the moment.

Rob, your writing and photos are brilliant. I've long thought that we need more honesty in NZ car reviews. The Autocar guys and even those across the ditch seem too scared to write a bad word about any car they test. I guess if they are brutally honest the importers won't lend them cars.

That's why the only car magazine I buy is Car from the UK (and even they seem a little too fond of Fords lately, but the writing is peerless).

Cheers

Matt

I was a bit worried that you wouldn't like the 1 series Rob, but I shouldn't have worried as it's obvious in every review that you write, you love cars :) I was looking at your list of review cars and realised you have had a pretty tidy bunch overall. Do you get to request what you test? Obviously it might take time to get up to the likes of R8 M4 911 GT3, but hopefully it's only a matter of time ;)   Ps I hope you still have a spare room for me and the baby Kiwis, as if you get a 911GT3 to test I'll be there in a shot, even if I have to row all the way (might take a tad longer that way though)

Thanks Amanda :)

I am itching to get my hands on a 911 - never been in one and I'd love to have a go.

More cheap cars coming up for now.  Micra here:

Punto coming soon. I pick up a Mitsubishi Mirage tonight.

Also I have scored an invite to a two day launch event for the BMW 3 series LCI and the BMW X1. Prepare for an enthusiastic writeup, I suspect.

You'll need to Rob, to keep them happy. Speaking from experience... :)

M3 all the way. Go for it. It's great fun, the only disappointment I really had was the sound track.

9am       Product presentation at BMW NZ
10am     Drive experience – the drive will be structured so you will drive one model the first day, then the other model on the return (ie. Day 1 = 3 Series, Day 2 = X1 and vice versa)
Day 2

Return drive to Auckland
3pm       Anticipated arrival at BMW

Rest assured there will be some fun extras which I have a feeling you will rather enjoy – over and above these engaging new vehicles.

Sounds good!

I'm also taking SWMBO to the launch of the new Superb the day after :D

Good grief were you at the same launch as all the full time motor Jorno's? You might end up with a full time job in it at this rate

I was! It was an experience that's for sure :)
