Great site thanks. Although I used apex launcher as I've used it before I've followed his list of bloatware and disabled them all. Glad to be rid of lots of the tesco stuff. Just wish the keyboard could keep up with my typing and that I'd stop hitting b instead of space lol.

Is there a way to get the keyboard to have a .co.UK button instead of a .com?

There are loads of Keyboard apps in Play Store- just try them out till you find one thats better than the built-in. I use "Tablet Keyboard Free"

Oh and the Maxthon browser is very highly rated for mobile devices - I have it on Tablet and laptop at present.

  • I'm a big fan of the iPad, but anything at your budget will be quite dated. That leaves you with either Android or Windows to choose from, and you also need to decide whether you want full size 10"

  • Do not get Samsung galaxy tab 3. Biggest load of ****e ive ever bought

  • The Hudl 2 is the best "small" tablet at that price.

OK I have to admit you guys steered me straight on this one. Hudl 2 is great and just what I needed. Having had it for a week or so only downside has to be the battery life but its not so bad that I can't live with it.

One question, I've looked around but either its not possible or I can't find the right answer. On my iPhone there is a handy trick in that if you are using the browser you can touch the top of the screen just by where the time is and the page will automatically scroll to the top of the page. Is there a function to do this or something similar on the hudl when using chrome? I have looked but can't find an answer. I know you can just keep swiping upwards and this is what I've been doing, however, would have been a very nice touch and less hassle that repeatedly swiping up

Android Tablet battery life is normally terrible out of the box with all standard settings.  There are lots of things you can do to reduce power consumption and some pretty good apps to manage the battery. Battery Doctor is one I use often.

SwiftKey is a good keyboard.

OK well its only 12 days old and its just had to go back. Last night it started turning itself off for no reason then wouldn't turn back on unless plugged into the mains.  Called the Tesco helpline and the guy was quite nice about it, asked if I'd tried resetting which I had twice then said sod it, he gave me a reference number and told me not to bother messing around and to take it back to the store for a refund or replacement.

I've taken it back and gave then the reference and they gave me a brand new one there and then. So I've just set this one up and will see how it goes but if this one break then I think I may get something different (probably the kindle fire)

I got arrested the other day for having two Ipads, an Ipad mini & two Samsung Galaxy Notes.

But I do have medical mitigating circumstances, My doctor told me to keep taking the tablets.  :)

I found this coat .... I believe it's yours

Are you John McCoy's son? ;)

I've had my Hudl2 since November and its been fine, much improved after the Jan 2015 software update.

You can lose most of the Tesco branding by dumping the Tesco Launcher, download Google Now launcher from the Play store and set as the default home screen App. You'll then see just a single Tesco App on the application menu. You cannot remove the Tesco home screen app however, I have found using google now launcher that home screen performance is much better as well as slight improvement in battery life.

I am possibly going to go out and buy a Windows 8.1 based tablet (HP Stream 7 or similar) with the soul purpose of running VCDS.

Only two problems I have with the Hudl2 are it is not possible to turn off the start up sound and it even sounds with the speaker turned off and it will not keep the time and every time I turn it on it goes to 00.00 1st January 2014.  I have searched tinternet and apparently it is not possible to turn that start up sound off but cannot find anything about the time dropping out.  If I set it to use system time it makes no difference.

Mine also boots to the wrong date/time but as soon as the wireless connects it corrects itself, usually in less than 10 seconds from power up.

Since I never turn mine off completely its not a problem since it maintains the time just fine in standby and whilst charging.

I hardly ever have it switched on for Wi Fi because I mainly use it for reading and that way it saves battery life.

Yeah I used Apex launcher. Very easy to use and after using the guide from thejames I've cleared all the Tesco crap.

Year originally I was going to use my kindle keyboard for that but I downloaded the kindle app and found that because the screen is backlit I use the hudl much more as it means when I read at night I don't have to have the bedside lamp on so SWMBO doest moan about the light.
